So let me start off by saying that I'm in the military and shortly after buying my xb12r (3 days) i was handed a set of orders that sent me to Turkey. First thought 'Sweet no speed limit great roads and long open stretches to really open it up' well all that is true, but riding for the time being, is impossible. During shipping it seems they dropped my crate on it's side, righted it, and then on to the other side damaging the frame pretty bad the swing arm is scuffed to all hell, the exhaust looks like it slid about 100yards, the lights on both sides are dangling and/or look like they simply exploded, the shifter is gone altogether as are the ball ends of both my brake and clutch, both my passenger foot pegs are knocked loose and the bolts are bent to the point i cant un screw them, the seat has a nice little gash from something, the rear seat cover is cracked, the right fork is scratched in a seemingly imposable place, the left arm is bent almost 15 deg. off what it should be, my stoppers are both cracked, and there are numerous scuffs on; the plastic all over the body the exhaust, the foot-pegs, the brake, the heal guards, the tensioner, and the frame.

come to think of it i should have just made a list...



11 miles on the bike, and the front Cly. wont fire.

I can't say anything other than I'm sorry. That really sucks.

Will you be compensated for the damage in some fashion?

there still working the details of that out. one person says the bike is totaled(over 1/3 the cost of any vehicle in damages and/or damage to the frame or electrical systems) and that means they have to buy me a new one. one person says all of this damage is simply cosmetic and the bike is still rideable (true) thus they have to pay for all the replacment parts and labor to get it back to it's condition before it left the states. and another says that that the damage couldnt have happened in transit and all happened when i droped the bike after it got here... on both sides... at high speed...with no fuel... or oil... or a battery... because im magical... cool huh??

yeah, some people don't see it that way i guess.

on the BRIGHTER side of things, the inspectors just called me and i was told that i have the choice of collecting the value of all the replaced parts + the cost of having an HD licensed mechanic ( the only HD licensed mechanic i can find within 500 km which charges about 190 YTL an hour) repair and replace everything, OR they claim my bike, and give me a brand new bike, but that takes up to a year.

they have it estimated at approximately $10k to have everything fixed that they damaged. that pays off the bike and buys me new frame sliders, a new wheel AND some new gear for the wife( with enough left over for gas money for a good while.

kinda torn tho, take the cash and live with the lower resale (if i ever get rid of it) or get a new one and start from scratch.
