brian fuller is building a custom out of a XBS in an upcoming biker build off show. heres the link to his web site and some pics of the bike: http://www.fullerhotrods.com go to custom gallery in the motorcycles section. its called the fuller fueller. its definately a different look for a buell. the elitest buellers will hate it. hoo-ray.. not sure when the episode will air, but i think the new B. B. Off season starts this month. |

In a word, crap. If all they were using was the motor, they should have just bought one and left a perfectly good Buell alone. |

Ouch, now if they had used the XB9R, I would be calling them for the take offs. I need that orange dash plate for my CityX. That is as much Buell as my Board track Whizzer that is on the shop bench. Fuel will be in the frame, will have belt drive, exhaust down the bottom of the bike, and no front brake (ZFB system Zero Front Brake) |

I like the look. I do think he carved off all the good "technical" parts. If I wanted to ride fast in a straight line wearing a wife beater and beanie helmet, That's the one I would pick! |

Why tear an XB down and say you built a chopper out of it. Save the teardown and order some forks and a motor. Woulda been a cool build had he actually used a part that makes an XB an XB. |

A fine looking bike, if you're into it... I can, however, admire the overall scheme and effort that went into building the bike. Especially since I posses none of the skills, at a sufficient level, to do something of the sort. But, its about as much a Buell as an OCC (bloated mini-bike) chopper is a Harley. It's kind of like buying a Bloodhound and having the bark removed. Or one could ask: When does a bike (insert manufacturer) cease to be "that" bike? When the stock frame is not used. Thats crap. All he used from the original bike was the engine. I don't see how that's more unique then most customs. I kind of feel sad for that buell to have it's heart cut out and body left to rot. |

I'll agree with everyone one on this one. For a custom, not bad. Like someone said "Gemme a XB9R and I will own the corners!" (Message edited by BCordb3 on February 02, 2007) |

To chop up a perfectly good Buell to do that is a shame. If it was a wreck, OK then. I think the bike is sweet for a bobber and I would own it but the only corner that one would own would be the one by the Starbucks. |

From the man himself Bryan, Thanks for taking the time to respond, I was short in my message because I didn't think it would be read. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool bike, very cool. The parts you listed are easier bought than taken off a working machine. I guess when I heard about the bike I expected to see something more recognizable to the untrained eye, XB frame modified maybe.... Keep doing what you do, I admire the skills you have. You are truly talented, but this just has nothin to do with a Buell. We'll be tuning in to the show. Cheers, Cord ----- Original Message ----- From: Bryan Fuller To: cord318@msn.com Sent: Friday, February 02, 2007 4:56 AM Subject: Why not? Cord, Unfortunately, having every Buell look the same just wouldn't fly for me. Its just now how I work. Its still a Buell, and has more similarities than you want to admit. Exhaust is on the bottom. Same components. Nearly identical width rear tire. Same width front tire. Frame mounts in the same locations as stock. Arm positioning is very similiar as well. I have a stocker as well, and its a blast (XB that's a blast to ride that is.) Anyway, you would be surprised at how much fun this thing is to ride. In essence the normal Buell is amazing in town and around curves. I personally wasn't much of a fan of it at high speed with cross-winds. The Fueller just keeps asking for more top speed and the Buell components are willing to give! Super stable on the top end. Surprisingly nice around gentle corners as well. Anyway, different strokes for different folks as they say. The new episodes start on Feb. 13ish, ours should be somewhere in March. No solid date at this point. Just to answer your question of why: Not just a fork: Engine, Trans, Starter, Battery, Headlight, Tailight, Triple Tree, Front Rotor, Rear Rotor, Rear Master Cylinder......Seems like I used a lot to me? Anyway, sorry you didn't like it. Bryan |

I was shocked to see a response at all honestly. I too am impressed with how he conducts himself and his skills. I do like the bike but, it no more XB than: Engine, Trans, Starter, Battery, Headlight, Tailight, Triple Tree, Front Rotor, Rear Rotor, Rear Master Cylinder...... Go buy that stuff and admit you used some XB parts. Don't claim you built a custom one of a kind XB chopper. The freakin kit choppers are at least recognizably Buell. |

I like his response, but I would like to see him take the "old" XB frame and hang a Rotax or KTM motor under it and see what that would do....... |

"different strokes for different folks" - i think pretty much everyone bought a buell because it was different..some peoples are just different from everyone elses different. you follow me on that? |

My momma always said, "different is as different does sir". The question remains, why not just buy those few parts? |

Because it made a better show and got more free advertising for him and Buell. Win win if you ask me. |

Interesting bike. Was that rear tire stolen off a John Deer? Seriously, not bad, and A+ for the skill to do it. I say using Buell as the core was a good idea... he's givin' props to our engine, which is more than most. One thing though: the pic quality on that site SUCKS! Someone get that guy a real camera so he can stop using the one in his cell phone! ~SM |

Question: "Why didn't he just buy the parts he needed?" Answer: Because I had a left over 05 XB and when he started the build, he was not sure exactly what parts he was going to be able to use during the build (wiring harness, forks, tranny, levers, triple trees, etc). I figured it would be easier and more time efficient to donate a whole bike and let him use what he needed. These builders are not paid for their bikes during the build. They have to buy everything needed or convince someone to donate parts or bikes to them. I was the one that decided to donate an entire bike. I wanted to support a local builder. His shop is in my neighborhood. I had seen his work before and wanted to see what he could do with the Buell. You guys are correct it isn't a pure Buell, however none to the Biker Build Off participants have ever used a Buell anything. Most of the guys just put the biggest and loudest motor they can buy in their bikes. All of the parts including sheet metal were hand made. The take-off parts were sold on Ebay, so some of you might have benefited from this build. I also took the frame that was left over and GAVE it to one my good customers (New12r) since his frame is trashed. He is going to make a track bike with it. Alot of people benefited from this build and no it may not be your style, but in the end "As long as your on two wheels, you're good with me" |

Well said, Clown! Also, that was a very generous donation! I love stories like this. Disturbed, I believe those pipes do still cater to the "low centralized mass" mantra. I think they look bad-ASS. They'd look even better on my Ss, if they could be made to fit. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on February 02, 2007) |

I have photos of the bike. Good ones too. CLown and Bryan would have to give the ok for anyone else to see them. I've even had to keep them from my fellow 3%ers. All I can say is yes, it's a chopper not a BUELL. On the other hand it is a kick ass motorcycle! He put alot of time and imagination into it. I'm not a chopper guy, hell I would even go so far as to say I hate them, but this is one that strikes a cord. Buell power, isn't that good enough? Smokescreen |
