Just curious. I think the Uly tail, aside from the somewhat strange looking pointy-ness, is a pretty cool gadget. I'd be really interested in seeing some pics if anyone has tried this, and costs incurred. ~SM | ||

I don't know of anyone that tried this, but seeing as how you can see the standard Lightning tail frame under the seat, I'd bet it's not a terribly complicated operation. This would be a great mod for people looking to do more 2-up and not wanting the rest of Uly's looks... | ||

Exactly what I was thinking... also better for cargo. Since both the Ss and the Uly use the wider frame, I'd be willing to bet it's actually the same tail. It looks like the Uly seat extension bolts in where the Ss foot pegs would go. But that's just based on what I can make of the photos... maybe I should ask around on the Uly side.  ~SM | ||

that does look really good, the only other thing I can see that you are going to need to swap is the Peg mounts, the Uly has thouse big ones that are the rider and passenger all in one | ||

I haven't done this conversion, but I have done it the other way round  The SS cast side rails are the same as the Uly, except that some of the cast lugs need drilling/tapping to suit the different models (easy). You would need the following parts: Tail unit complete seat battery tray and seat release plastic undertray. I'd be interested Trojan, but the exchange rate and shipping would eat me alive (stupid European countries and their booming economy, bringin' down my $$$!  ), and I'm not entirely certain I want to tackle that just yet. I was told by a <cough> "little birdy" that the TT/SS undertail will work better with a little massaging. The problem with the Uly tail was it was designed with the uly's tall suspension in mind. Now you'll loose some storage space, but you'll not have to worry about bottoming the tire out on the undertail. | ||

Steve, do you mean it could be easier to keep the Ss undertray and whatnot, and just rig the metal taillight/pad assembly and seat onto it? And when you say I'd be "losing space", you mean if I keep the original and NOT use the Uly tray, correct? Sorry to come off so ignorant here, but I've never really looked at a Uly up close, so it's hard to visualize this stuff. ~SM | ||

Swordsman, yes, that's EXACTLY what I was told. Use the SS/TT undertail with the Uly tail section. There will be spots you'll need to trim and some spots you'll need to fab up using sheet metal or fiberglass. | ||

Hmm, I'm not much into fabrication, but that still sounds easier than doing a whole tray/electronics swap. And cheaper too... just the light/pad assembly and seat. Thanks for the info! If I DO decide to tackle this, I'll post pics. ~SM | ||

At the request from Hals, I'll be heavily documenting the process myself. I'm going to be swapping out the TT tail for a Uly tail. And adding the XBR front fairing. I've already got the side cases on the way from a fellow Badwebber. Just need to bike now | ||

I think the main advantage to using the Uly's tail section is that the hard case frame will bolt directly onto it. A modified SS tail won't accommodate the bags. So as an item list you will at least need: Complete tail section Seat Combo rider/passenger peg assembly | ||

Well, personally, I never plan on having hard bags. I prefer the soft ones... lets me squeeze in odd shapes. So, theoretically, does the Uly light/pad assembly bolt in at the end of the rails like the Ss tail light assembly? Seems like it should, but it's obscured by the seat, and it seems to stick out further than that. Is there a piece in between the rails and the assembly that I would need to rig? ~SM | ||

Getting into the bendy and dirty everytime I ride my CityX. Doing the work up and build of putting the Blast rear clip on the back of my ride. Pelican cases coming. LEDS coming, and moving the lights back with the ULY blinkers set. I will post pics when it is done. My CityX has been running the ULY front fender set since March, too short for the ULY . Holding my breath waiting for the true dirt bike Buell offerings.  | ||

Doesn't the TT have the regular Lightning seat rails on it? So wouldn't the undertail/tray be different, i.e. shorter than the Ss undertail/tray. | ||

I'm almost positive the TT has the SS seat rails. Just a different seat. | ||

I have a customer that has done the Uly tail on his SS. It required some serious and not so serious fabrication. He did it mainly to give his wife a better ride. It wasn't cheap either. If you do it right and have to buy everything new your looking at least $600 in parts alone. Then you have to get creative with the wiring and fuse blocks also, as seat clearance is the issue. Steve: You're right. Look at the Buell accessories page, they're selling the TT seat as a Lightning Long solo saddle, and the Lightning Long saddle (along with the footpeg mounts) as a TT dual saddle. | ||
