Would anyone happen to know if a header and exhaust from a 98 S3 would also work on a 98 S1. Thanks Shawn |

as long as it is a 98S1W, i am not entirely sure if they made non thunderstorm S1s in 98???? anyone??? now, that doesn't mean it won't bolt up, as i have a 98 S1W header on my 97 S3 and it works just fine, maybe not optimal, but the top end is pretty good! the 98 S1W and 98 S3 headers should be identical. |

The frame changed on the S3 in 98 and the header from the rear cylinder goes under the frame rail on the 98, and over the frame rail on the 97 S3. For some reason the 98S1W and the 97 S3 are interchangeable, but I dont think it will fit the 98 S3 |

The S3 frame actually changed in 99, so yes the header and can will fit on the 98 S1, BUT if it is not an S1W then it uses the 2" headers and you must change both the header and can. In fact, the bigger S3 header is a performance upgrade (if you also change to T-Storm heads you will have an S1W spec engine). Buell exhausts are as follows: 96-98 S1s and 97 S3s use the same header (the 96 S1 muffler is different); 97-98 M2s also use a 2" header but it is not stainless; 98 S3s and S1Ws use a 2 1/2" exhaust; all 99 and up M2, S3, X1s used an under frame 2 1/2" exhaust (not interchangeable with older models).
