i know that the 520 is a 'smaller' chain, but is there any reason to use one over the other? |

I know using my 530 I have only had to adjust my chain once since installed 2 years back and many miles ago (no speedo). Less stretch means less wear. And yes, chains do stretch otherwise why was my old chain with the same number of links be longer than the new one I installed. 530 might be overkill for most applications but I like it. |

520 non O ring For racing an O ring chain is uneccesary, more expensive and saps power. I use cheap 520 race chains from DID and change them regularly. |

Less stretch means less wear. 530 might be overkill for most applications but I like it. Ditto. P.S. for what its worth, Myself, Xb9ser(glenn), Spatten1(scott), Mortarmanmike120(mike), Garyl(gary), FireboltericMA(eric), Mike Ali(non badweb), Louie from Conn.( non badweb), David in oregon(non-badweb), and a few I've forgotten all run 530 O-ring. |

I have 3400 miles on my 520 DID gold racing chain. It is model 520 ERV3, with an "X" type O ring. List price is about $158. It has been lubricated every 500 miles with PJ 1 chain lube. The results have been entirely satisfactory. No detectable wear or stretch. The Vortex Aluminum 46 tooth sprocket seems to be in very good condition as well.
![xxXx](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/254964.jpg) I like the way it looks as well.

By using a scale or caliper to measure the roller width between the inside plates, they can be easily identified. Nominal Dimensions Are: 520 = 1/4" - (0.25") - [6.35mm] 530 = 3/8" - (0.38") - [9.52mm] *Both chains are standard #50 pitch of 5/8" - (0.625") - [15.88mm] |
