A regional get-together of Buellers that we will try to keep as simple as possible as the organizers want to ride...We're thinking of pre-registrations only and you send your money or credit card directly to the hotel and caterer... This is the weekend before BEAR season so we should not have a loose dog problem again... Do you want to stay as close to Deal's Gap as possible or would you consider alternate locations such as Suches, GA(pretty cute huh?), home of Two Wheels Only and GA 180, better know as Wolfpen Gap?...There is an eighty unit Holiday Inn express within 12 miles and TWO would do the catering...REALLY GOOD FOOD...They have very limited lodging but more than ample camping...A close to Deal's Gap alternative is Tapoco Lodge... Unfortunately Fontana Village Resort is not available this weekend...All the other large resorts so far investigated are much more expensive (read Golf)... Let's have your thoughts... See Ya! Bob |

Racerboy: Count me in. Personally I am not intersted in N. Ga since I live in Atlanta and ride up there frequently. The roads are better in NC and there are far fewer cars, houses, farmers, bussinesspeople or driveways to ineterfere with your line on the turns. |

I'll be there, as well . . . . .don't particularly care where we stay . . . . loose dogs were'nt much of a problem . . .I could do without the oil in the apexes, though (did my very best Jay Springsteen impressonation . . .except it was a right-hander!) |

did anyone other than me almost crash in that 10 mph curve on hwy 28? north of fontana during the rally. it seems a buell crashed there the night before and someone dumped a pile of oil dry in the middle of the curve. i went into the oncoming lane of traffic to keep from going down. fortunately nothing but a gold wing was coming from the other direction. pucker factor 10 plus. |

I watched V2WIN ride that very same curve just after the trooper had finished spreading all the absorbant that he had in his trunk over the goop that was on the road...Don't know which was worse...Before or after...John saved it too and the amazing thing was we knew it was there... I've contacted Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort and asked that they block their rooms for us...Rob and Leslie are on the road doing moto shows on the left coast...Will talk to them when they're back in NC... Still no word from Tapoco...Will leave another message... And Blake, thanks for correcting the header so quickly...I need to hire a proofreader... See Ya! Bob |

Gravedigger, ! Trying to stay close to the Gap is definetly the first option, but based on some of the comments from my "better half" and others, staying at Cherokee, NC might be a good option, as there is definetly more to do at night there, and I'm sure there must be a Capuccino machine there somewhere within walking distance! It's about 40 miles to the Gap from Cherokee, and it's not boring roads, so it might not be too bad. I'll make some calls this week to see what the options and $$$ are. But, if we stay at the gap, I'll make sure that Linda brings her own cap. machine. |

Not that anyone asked, but I'd prefer to stay near civilization as well. Getting there and back is where the fun is. duck |

That's what we want, comments, to see where everybody prefers to stay at or do in terms of riding. Keep it coming. |

Cherokee Update, There are a MILLION places to eat and things to do at Cherokee, but I think that some of the activities that people might find interesting will be out of Season by the time we get there. The drama "Unto These Hills"ends its shows in August The Oconaluftee Indian Village is open from May 15th until October 25th each year, but only from 9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. daily. So it might cut into your riding time during the daylight hours to go there. However if GAMBLING is what you are after, then the Harrahs Cherokee Casino will be plenty! Probably the best compromise would be to have the people interested (ie, Barbie, Linda and any other people that want to go SHOPPING!) go on a group ride to Cherokee for lunch/sightseeing, then come back to Fontana in the evening for dinner. It would be similar to one of the friday rides that from last year that looped around the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. |

José, thanks for all the help regarding Cherokee... José and I spoke on the phone recently and discussed the idea of having a "Points Rally" within this year's rally...Although still very much in the planning stage, let me know with your posts here what you think... To participate you pay an entry fee $5, $20 ??? and all the money would be returned to the winners announced at the banquet Sat evening... Thursday evening or Friday morning you pick up a sheet with a list of bonus locations of varying point value...Using your own maps you plan where you want to ride trying to collect as many points as possible... At each bonus location you will receive a unique stamp to be placed on the rally sheet... All rally sheets must be turned in by 5 p.m. Sat evening to a really big guy... Winners announced at the banquet Sat evening and the prizes awarded...If two or more riders tie in points the money for those places would be combined and split evenly among these riders so small group rides are possible... We don't want to turn this into a mini "Iron Butt" with riders riding arround the clock to collect points...To keep this from happening we will choose most bonus locations where you can only get your stamp during daylight hours and you will only be able to get a "Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort" stamp, worth mucho points Friday evening at the BBQ... You might even be able to become a member of the "Frog Level Yacht Club" during this rally...John (V2WIN) and I already are, anybody else?... See Ya! Bob |

I'm there! If you're interested in Cherokee, a member of Labusas owns a motel right downtown. It's only a short distance from the end of the Blue Ridge, too. Pageant Hills motel-I can't find his Phone number. Rama/Mark Rich |

We're going to need as much help as possible from anyone riding in eastern TN, western NC and northeastern GA between now and mid August...We will need to contact retailers who might be willing to act as stops for our rides during the rally...I will have specific roads that we need these retailers to be located on... Please post here if you will be able to help... Thanks, Bob |

We have just learned that the Carolina Dealers' Assn is holding their annual rally in Maggie Valley the same weekend as ours...Maggie Valley is just east of Cherokee on 19...Our info indicates 5,000 attendees...We do not know if it's a big party or if they spread out and ride the mountains or both (boy that's a pretty picture, party and riding in the mountains!)...If you have any knowledge of the Carolina Dealers' rally would you please post it here...At this time, with what we know we should probably go ahead and just modify our riding plans to not included going too far east...There are plenty of western NC, eastern TN and north GA roads to occupy our time... See Ya! Bob |

Bob, I don't see it as a problem, there are definelty plenty of places to ride west of that area. Good thing our acommodations are in order! 5000 is a lot of people! |

Neil are you planning on coming to this affair in the fall?...I'd love to see your M2L...Reg Kittrelle (Battletrax, Battle2win Mag) has a M2 in our colors but his is a euro model...You do get the comments...Either they love it or hate it...There's no in between... José...Well I heard one opinion this evening that we should move the date but it may be a little late and I'm like you...We should be able to redirect the riding emphasis...However, let's see if we can gather more info about the Rally in the Valley before we make our decision...If these 5,000 go for the Dragon and the Cherohala and the roads such as 28, 129, 68 and 315. we're going to have a mess...Wallowing hogs and blasting Buell's don't mix too well...I've had that experience and it's almost come to blows...What you and I consider to be a safe pass may not be so perceived by our brothers packin' their SO on the back...If they pull over and motion you by it's great, but if they don't and you make a pass, well... See Ya! Bob |

Jose & Bob, What accomodations are in order? I (as well as a few other Motor City Buellers) am looking forward to attending the Northern GA/Deal's Gap event. I've been keeping an eye here to get the news out locally on which hotel and other pertinent stuff. Guess I've missed the posting noting which hotel/motel will be our main place. Please post it again, direct me to it, or zap it over to my mailbox. Considering the numbers that'll be there with this Carolina Dealers Assn thing, we'd better get our reservations in soon (even if the event is after Labor Day). H-man |

H_Man and everyone else...The host hotel will again be Fontana Village Resort - 800.849.2258... Their main lodge has been taken by another group but they have plenty of other rooms in motel type units, cabins, camp sites with shower facilities and RV hookups...Also, Rob and Leslie at Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort have blocked their rooms - 800.889.5550...Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort also has campsites and shower facilities...There are a few rooms available at Tapoco Lodge - 800.822.5083...This is also the only place I'm aware of where carryout beer and wine are available...Fontana Village is located on 28 just east of the Gap...Tapoco is located on 129 just south of the Gap and guess where Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort is located?... Mike, thanks for asking for this info and everyone note his comment on making your reservations early...We really don't know yet what effect the Carolina Dealers' Assn Rally in the Valley will have on our rally but it would be wise to plan ahead... |

Hey, boys and girls, I received an email today from a g'day boy (as opposed to a good ol' boy)...Robert Mackie, an Aussie, is planning on joining us at the Gap...Only question he has is wether or not his Buell will work here in the states when it is upside down...I'll keep you posted here as I learn more about Robert...Heck, maybe I can get him to post here and introduce himself... See Ya! Bob |

Hell, I have absolutely no idea as to how many will attend since there is no pre-registration and all monies are being handled by either Fontana Village or Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort...I may be able to get an idea after the reservation hold is closed...Watch for your next copy of Fuell for the details... José...Uh, your going to feel sooooo bad when I tell you to look at the top of this page...hehehe...Don't you hate it when that happens?...Hope to see you in the fall... See Ya! Bob |

I don't really care where we will be staying. All I know is that I will be there (of course if I and my S2 are back from Germany by then). Since I will be living in N.C. instead of Wisconsin I am DEFINITELY IN!!! Deal's Gap will still be a good 9 hours from where I will be living, so it will be a little closer than coming from Wisconsin. Although with only 77,000 miles on my S2 I ain't afraid to put some miles on. See you all there. 1313 |
