I've come close to getting an XB12R/S a couple of times. I don't have any problem with reliability but have always been concerned about these bikes running a relatively low volume engine oil system. Anyone have/heard of any concerns regarding a 2.5 qt sump? I suppose so long as you cool the oil okay and work the bubbles out before pumping it should be okay. Most of my miles are in town and I'm concerned I'd overheat too quickly. | ||

Its got an oil cooler and an electric fan. I doubt any Harley V motor ever ran so cool. No heat related issues on my 9sx. Run full synthetic for an increased margin if you are concerned (I do, for that reason). | ||

You can feel comfortable in knowing that dry sump'd and air cooled Porsche's and Honda's run very little oil in their tanks as well. Since it's a dry sump engine, you don't need a cavernous oil pan to cover the oil pump suction because you don't have to worry about sucking air during the various g-forces your bike endures. | ||

Scratch that comment on Porsches -- they carry quite a bit of oil. My bad. |
