I just installed the 4" taller Zero Gravity windscreen that I got from American Sport Bike and would like to use the original windscreen as either a test for some possible finish/paint ideas or cut it up for use as some accent pieces. How can I remove the Lightning logo (for reuse, if possible) and the black foam strip on the back (not for reuse) from the original windscreen? If I decide to cut it up, what would everyone recommend using? The cuts may not necessarily be in a straight line.

Rubbing alcohol. Let it soak in and gently peel away. I never pulled one of these off before, but have used the above method for removing logos off cars, boats, and a few motorcycle tanks. Sometimes the process can be helped along with some dental floss. |

I've cut wind screens before with a dremel. They were not as thick as these XB wind screens though. I have always had luck with dental floss and a heat gun to get emblems off. Clean up with WD40. DAve |

Lightning_bug & Dave, Thanks for the tips. The dental floss and rubbing alcohol worked great on the Lightning logo and, with a little soaking, the WD40 made quick work of the glue residue left behind. Same for the black foam strip on the back. I think I'll hold off on the cutting until next weekend while I decide exactly how I want to use the pieces. |

cutting -- lay down a strip of masking tape on the area you want to cut -- draw on the tape where the line should be (hint, draw half, trace with tracing paper, use THAT to lay out the second half -- much easier to get a symetrical line) saber saw with a fine blade will do a good job -- support the screen as much as possible (old pillow works well, just make sure to get rid of the evidence)-- or you can turn the screen upside down, and rock it so the area being cut is supported on teh bench/table -- make sure to protec the screen, though |
