Hi there,

My speed sensor has died, and as it seems like you would pay more than 10Euro here for a 10Dollar part (if that makes any sense ), I was wondering if it would work cheaper buying in the States and having it shipped to Europe...

Anyone got experience with this?

Cheers,

Olivier

I recently brought an XB9SX over here in the UK for £6495 !!
which works out $12700!!!!!

In the states it is $8895 (£4527) whats the deal with that ?

I have to pay the full retail as Im doing finance on mine but surely over £2000 mark up for being in the UK is a bit steep ?

I think that the cost of shipping would be the deal breaker, probably the reason for the increase in price.

Well I thought that for a small and rather expensive part like a sensor the shipping costs would be smaller than the +50% or so we have to pay here...

Surely I am not the first one to have thought about it?

Cheers,

Olivier

You have shipping to pay, plus local VAT when it enters the country (anything from 15% to 20% depending upon which European country you are in. The tax is payable on both the value of the item AND shipping cost combined! In the UK and most other countries you will also have import duty of around 5% on top, and sometimes a handling fee from the carriers.

It can still be worth doing sometimes, but is worth checking first.

Pigs Arse!!!!! ...... on Buell Prices in Australia that is. Nah realistically, the price is mainly driven by the market, not the exchange rate. The exchange rate is a factor but only one in a long list.

General rule of thumb for parts in Australia used to 3 x US Price. Then shipping had to be included. Since August 2006 H-D has taken over the importation and sales of Buell and Harleys rather then the previous agent and things have gotten a fair bit cheaper.

If you're close to a US military base, and know someone in the military, have them ship it to their APO, it'll take a couple weeks, but it won't cost ANY extra.

I might ship my XB9R back to France with me. The shipping costs (airplane) are around $2k just for the bike. Then I'll have to pay 6% of the bike price to the french customs (maybe including the shipping price as stated above). I will have to buy the european headlights and maybe a couple of other parts (not sure about the gas octane rates) from a licensed H.D. dealer that will issue a certificate of conformity for me and then keep the bike for at least 6 months before selling it.

But with the euro worth $1.3 and the prices of the used bikes in the classifieds, it's still going to be worth it + I'll grin while I ride the bike!
