Hey guys, just purchased my first Buell (o4 12R). It's awesome and this forum has been great for letting me know there is an aftermarket for these bike. Quick question. When perusing the local buell dealer I settled on my 04 for price but loved the new black o7's. One dramatic difference I noticed, especially since the bikes were parked side-by-side, is my 04 was noticeably lower than the 07. The difference can be seen with the naked eye from 30 feet away and is the difference between putting my feet flat on the ground and being on the balls of my feet. The obvious thought is that it has been lowered, but the dealer didn't list that under accessories (or anywhere). I can't tell that any work has been done, there are no performance stickers or manuals. The ride seems stiff for my taste....I am working on dialing it in....but it seems stiff at either end of the spectrum. Is this bike lowered? Are the new bikes taller? How can I tell what to do get back to "normal" Thanks in advance....besides the archaic search feature, this forum rocks!!! |

Suspension settings probably I've seen the same thing during a demo for at the time the new longs... One was dialed in for heavier rider and other the lighter.. |

what color is the spring on your rear shock? blue=normal yellow=low did you purchase the bike left over new or is it used? if it is used, the previous owner could have switched out for the low set up. the 12r never came in a low version from the factory. brian |

I made my firebolt into a low recently. dramatic differences in preload will make a difference, but I'm not sure how much. |

Another possibility along with suspension is the tires. The Dunlops on the 04 have a flatter profile than the Pirellis on the 07. Tires alone arn't going to make a huge difference in height but they do contribute a little. Is this bike new or used. Or more specific, are the tires new or used? My bike sat about 1/4 to 1/2 inch lower on worn out Scorc Syncs than it does now on fresh Scorp Syncs. |

thanks, the rear spring is blue and was set up for a light rider. I dialed the preload in heavier for me....but that was after I got the bike home. The bike is used...sporting Continentals that I believe had "attack" written in the tread pattern (only -ack is visible now). I'm gonna back off the compression damping a little more and see if I can't smooth this thing out but the mystery continues.... |
