Is it just me that thinks these ten finalists are turds? Besides having no visual connection to the XB12STT (or any motorcycle for that matter), they are abhorent from a design perspective. My favorites - 1. The Vargas pinups - if your going to steal someone elses artwork at least put it on the bike in a balanced manner. 2. The Firefly - couldn't find any good drawings of the Millenium Falcon to rip off? 3. The King of the Road - looks like a cover from a DMV drivers education booklet. 4. Cracked Earth - Nice stock photo, nothing says Vtwin performance like scorched mud. 5. Fingerpaints - Wasn't there a minimum age of 6 to participate in this competition? | ||

I sat down and tried to create something.....ya know what the heck I just might win kinda thing. My bikes came out looking lame, I just couldn't get anything to flow or even be something I would be proud to say I created. I have to agree with Kobrakhan none of them make me want to buy a buell. Besides with the begging for votes and the bitchin about rules violation, the contest has become a joke. I understand you want to win the motorcycle, stop whining and take it like a man. | ||

Mine and some of my friends submissions. http://www.myspace.com/kobrakhan1 I'm not saying these are winning submissions, but I know they would actually sell if produced - Is there a single entry out of the selected ten that you would buy? I guess I'm completely missing the point of this competition. I was under the impression that Buell wanted something cool and potentially sellable. Instead they selected submissions that were decidely uncool and definitely not sellable. Oh well, it really was expecting too much from a company that adorns there 'streetfighters' with iMac colored plastics a full five years after the fad was dead... | ||

I'm pretty sure that Buell never planned on mass producing the winning design. The idea has to be to get people involved with the brand and the bike. As a graphic designer myself, I think most of the 10 are pretty weak as far as design goes, but if they were really after salable designs, they would have hired a professional. That said, I wish I would have spent a couple of hours and put a design together. The competition does seem a bit thin. | ||

Does Buell know that at least 8 of these "concepts" are flagrantly plagiarized? Let's start with the Aircraft pin-up concept. Anyone at Buell ever heard of artist Alberto Vargas? Whoever submitted this concept is presenting other artists work as his/her own. Another concept, #2 is the "Firefly Transport Ship" simply placed into the number plates... Buell better check their own rules and the originality or lack there off of these top 10 entires.  | ||

If I remember what the judging was based on right... 25%- marketability, 25% how it pertained to Buell motorcycles, 50% on originality. | ||

Concept #2. If I can jump on the internet and find the artwork used to produce these "Original" Buell contest concepts, I'd say there are some problems with this contest.   | ||

Do you think that Buell is just going to HIRE whoever wins this competetion and put them in charge of design? If the pun ups win, I'm sure that Buell will try to pay whomever needs to be paid to use those images. OR, they will just change the look of the pun ups and blah, blah, blah. What a bunch of babies. It is pretty funny how those designs made it to the top 10. I think we should all get a free bike for doing the painstaking research and trying to give Buell a heads up to save their ass from liability court. HAHA. Huh, Johnny? It probably took me longer to write this paragraph than it took the guy to create the masterpiece FireFly concept. HAHA. Entertainment indeed... | ||

Nuts, I wouldn't say it's whining, maybe some are pissed that they didn't get picked over those that did. But I for one didn't even enter the contest. Why? Because I'm not a very good artist. The pin-up girl I could go either way on... at any rate even if copyright is not an issue I think the use of the picture is not well executed. But the Firefly ship... I mean come on.
