I knew I recognized the images on one of the other entries... the alien looking one is basically images of the spaceship "Serenity" off of the TV series Firefly and the movie based on the series, Serenity. That is not original work! Fox and Universal own the copyright to that. Do a image search for firefly and serenity and you will find images of that ship and they match exactly the contest entry. This contest is looking more and more unfair to me. I wanted to see all of the finalists be original works. Not pasted images of other people's work. |

I agree that it sucks to see others get ahead by cheating or skirting the rules while you spent time and effort creating something original. |

It is lame though isn't it? I know, I wish others could have had a better chance... I don't mean to sound like a whiner or anything and I'm not just complaining for myself here either. I would really like to see at least the top 50... or maybe even the top 100. I bet there are some cool originals we won't be able to see unless they post them here. |

Here is the link to view front, side, top, rear and bottom of the ship Serenity... Firefly class. Probably where the contestant got his images. http://www.fireflywiki.org/Firefly/FireflyTranspor t |

Dang, you're completely right Cutting and pasting a picture from the internet does not deserve a free bike. Has this been reported? Erik and the judges most likely have no idea that it is not original art. |

I don't know this show. Never heard of it. It can't be as good as Star Trek. Kirk out. |

Why do you say that Isham? Could it be all the un-original art? the poor designs, or all the complaining here from sore losers? |

That design is not the only one that has been copy and pasted from other artists work (or stock art). The last helmet design contest had a few of those as well. But I can tell you the winner had completely original work. |

That's good to hear Blackxb9, wouldn't want to see anyone get into trouble over a contest, which was a great thing for Buell to do after-all. |

I think there needs to be a T-shirt design contest for the new riders riders group. What do you think Johnny? |

...images of the spaceship "Serenity" I knew that looked familiar! I gotta side with 45 on this one. It should be disqualified. For the record I don't have any submissions in the contest, but as a designer, I hate to see someone else take credit for/steal my work and pass it off as their own. FYI: "FireFly" is a pretty cool series, albeit only 14 episodes. Now available at Best Buy and Circuit City for $20. |

Buellinachinashop T-Shirt design? hmmmmmmmmmmmm, let me go get another cup of coffee and think about that. I'm thinking maybe we should. I'm up for it. How do we go about it? |

Was a great contest to hold. I want to make it clear though that I am not a sore loser, and in reality was not really too concerned if my design made it or not. What makes me mad is expecting to see some really cool ORIGINAL works in the top 10 to vote for only to find ones like this. Original thought of concept I guess, but not the artist's work at all. That movie just came out last year and I think they are working on a sequel. Surely the copyright to that is still kicking around? The judges probably don't even know about Firefly either. If that design won, I bet Buell couldn't produce that without infringing. That's the way I see it. |

In a way, I'm almost looking out for them to give them a head's up saying... Hey guys, this might not be legal! Kinda feel bad for them. Hell, what do I know anyway. |

45degrees. I'm with you. the designs in the contest just don't inspire me to buy one. That and as you mentioned, the un-original artwork is just plain unforgivable. |

I'm still thinking 2006... Serenity came out in late 2005. |

Start a thread area (or ask Blake to do it) and hopefully it catches on. The thing is, unlike the TT contest deal, it's kept in one thread area. The TT stuff is all over the board. Let's let the TT thing blow over and go from there, even if it's not for the riders group, we could do one for Bad Web if Blake and company wouldn't mind. Yeah, I noticed the Firefly thing as well. I feel bad that I voted for it now (I couldn't help myself, I'm a huge fan!). Wouldn't it suck if it did win, and then it was illegal to use? I'm sure Erik and the boys just didn't recognize it. It's impossible to know if what has been submitted is original or not nowadays... it's so easy to grab stuff off the Net and bend it to your will. It really should be disqualified. Bummer. Dunno' if the WWII pinup art should be lumped in with that or not. I seriously doubt it's original, but if they're actually from old planes, there's probably no copyright issues. They look a little too new though, so someone probably owns them already. If the Zipper Dragon is original art... holy cow, that dude's got skillz. ~SM |

Swordsman... I used one of the same girls as a joke in the "contest" thread to show that it really isn't the contestant's original work. I'm not sure how old it is (I think it's 40's or 50's, but not sure). I'm not sure if she was on a fighter plane or bomber, (she was on my R/C P-47 for awhile) I couldn't remember the artist... I was thinking possibly Vargas, as one Badwebber had inferred, but I'm not sure if it's Vargas or not. There were a few good pinup artists back then and they all had different styles. I wish I still had the original ZIP file I got it in, because that had the artist's name I think. I'll have to dig around and find it again with an image search like I did before. The contestant found it somehow. Besides that, the pinup bike in the contest is horribly done anyway. None of the views match at all. It's sloppy IMO. Cut and paste with no thought at all. |

You're right on JM, "No photos". Did anybody else notice that the instructions on the web were different from the PDF? The web asked that you email in your entry with mailing address, number and name. The Pdf asked for just name and daytime phone. I wonder if anybody was DQ'd because of that. |

I need to get off this forum. I'm slowing losing the respect of this contest. I say we petition that all the entries are unoriginal and Badwebbers get parts off the winning bike. I got first dibs on the wheels. No i really need to get off this forum... |
