I just purchased a 2006 Uly and the rubbery plastic coating on the triple tail is already turning white. Is this something that is a known problem? Can it be easily cleaned and prevented from happening again? TIA for any help/cleaning suggestions.
Dave

Did you wax it?

Some liquid cleaners will fade the back plastic and rubber used on M/C's. I use only S100 for many years after learning this lesson.

I've had my Uly for about 9 months and have not had the problem you described.

I did not wax the bike but the triple tail rubber did have this white/gray look when I picked it up at the dealer. I know they use S100 to clean/prep bikes but I'm unsure what they may have used for wax. That could be it. Any suggestions for cleaning it off?

Look for a product called "Black Magic". Comes in a spray bottle. Should be in any auto parts store.

There's a number of different products that'll 'fix' this for you (Black Magic will work.) I have a small spray bottle from AutoZone for black rubber bumpers (IIRC it's called Black Back) and if I put it on and then rub it out it leaves a nice all black finish and it won't rub off on the wife's shirt (if you don't thoroughly rub it off the wife will be unhappy.)

Justin and Big:
Thanks! I think we have some of that Black Magic stuff for the plastic on my wife's Mini Cooper. I'll try it when we have some warmer temps.

Will the black back or black magic work on the beak of the Uly or the hand guards?

"Black Magic" itself is clear and won't rub off on clothes. It works on any unpainted plastic or rubber body trim parts. Armor All might work too.
