there are 2 spacers on the front of the X1 ( PM equipped ) a long one and a short one, which side is the long one on relative to the brake disk.

Well, as long as they are like any other bike with spacers... Put the wheel up there, with the spacers in one way or the other, slide the axle in, adn see if it binds(rotor to caliper is where it would hit)... Other than that, I dont know... Chase |

P.S. - ignore the drive pins note, that for another project in the works. P.P.S. - To the Bueller needing DRIVE PIN info, I'll have it around noon today. |

Careful, I know at least one of the manuals for my 00 M2 had the diagram flat out wrong. Can't remember if it was the factory service manual, the parts manual, or both. |

Bill: PLEASE look and see. Get back to me with details so I can get the info to the folks in Technical Publications and we can make sure folks here have accurate information. Court |

My 1999/2000 service manual for M2's also shows the spacers on the wrong sides. |

Someone send me a sketch of the wrong and the right. . . let's get this dealt with so we don't have some poor soul putting his back together bikewards. |

Bad News: Ditto that my 2000 S3 Service manual has the spacers on the WRONG SIDE for the rim. As you ponder this problem you drop your beer... Good News: When you go to tighten the wheel nut, you quickly realize that the clearance is opposite and you swap the spacers and realize that all is good. Have another beer... |

Thanks Court, I have a PM wheel the manual has a cast alloy or marchesini, I am a little unsure so I was hoping that some one with USD forks and PM wheels would respond. the info on bearing replacement for the wheels is a little thin too, I take it that you want error submissions if we find errors in the FSM and parts books? the FSM does not show the PM wheel on the X1 there are 4 lock nuts on the rear brake that are not called out IIRC I will be documenting an alternative bearing install method for the KV this week end. On a side note I have determined that the Front motor mount information in the FSM is minimal, the book conatins info in 2 places about the Rear isos and refs to it, the front iso info is under engine replacement (after repair) and not pointers to it you ahve to "dig it out" |

I gave my manual to the guy that bought my Cyclone... so I can't check... sounds like some good data points above though. |

FYI my answer is short one on the disk side long one on the opposite side, the FSM is correct for the X1 |

the illustrations are backwards -- that's the bad news te good news is that if you try to follow the illustration, your wheel will not mount up -- the brake disc will not even be close to fitting in the caliper -- it's obvious to the point where a wrench marching through the fogg will notice ;-} |

The first time I took the wheel off, I never really looked at that part of the manual until I had the whole thing together. Getting the caliper off... that was the biggest head scratcher. |
