If its like my palm pilot you have to re-connect each time you change screens. Check to see if you are connected and go from there. |

YA mean one has to reconnect everytime ya change screens, That sort of Sucks now, Damn ... seems like I have to shut bike down and software then restart everything for it to reconnect this sounds Buggy to me , I hope this ain`t the way it has to be... |

Why don`t they ship with instrutions etc. I went into the help pull down but it don`t tell ya how or really what to do , just tells what it does... I`m losing it.. |

not like that. what I mean is to click on the drop down menu and hit connect. The most you may have to do is turn the key off and then on but I dont think it's necessary |

No, you don't have to shut the bike down and software then restart. Just click on the green square with the red and blue arrows going around in a circle when you change from one screen to another. That will reconnect the software with the ecm. |

There are different connection modes. In Active Settings mode, the Computer is primarily talking TO the ECM, to do tps resets, AFV resets, DTC resets, Fuel pump tests, etc. When you execute a test, it connects, runs the test, then disconnects. In the real time diagnostics mode (i.e., gauges, virtual strip chart, or digital display types), the communication is primarily FROM the ECM to the computer. The connection stays until you disconnect, power off, or change the screen display type. Yea, you have to hit the green connect button when you change display type. But it isn't a big deal, it connects quickly enough when you click the green button. You don't need to restart anything. And frankly, you don't often jump between the display types. It's just not an issue. I use the gauge display primarily, and use the CH button to configure the 6 digital displays in gauge mode to display the numerical parameters I need to see. I rarely change them, as 6 in addition to the guages is usually more info than I need. And I rarely use the digital display mode, the gauges mode with 6 digital readouts gives me the all the parameters I need to see at any given time.. I rarely use the virtual strip chart mode in real time, because I don't often drive with my laptop connected to my bike. But I havee recorded some parameters in real time logging mode on my PDA, then opened the log file on my laptop in strip chart mode to review the logged data back at the shop. As soon as Techno gets the PDA version logging AFV data, I'll be using that function ALL the time when tuning. It's very close to being released. The techno documentation for how to use the program does kinda suck. But the program is easy enough to use, I haven't seen it as that big a deal. I wrote the TPS reset instructions that are on the disc and their website, so I think that is covered. The setup/installation documentation could be better, but I've written additional documentation to help customers with that. I've posted it here before, but it's probably time I did it again since I've added to it since then. Al |

Thanks Tq_freak, But I have downloaded that pkg. allready,That whats I was talking about... Al, Thanks YEs ,Thats why I never mention anything about the Tps reset Those instructions seem to be the Cats Meow even though I have not tried it yet, But that's what I meant they went into detail but as far as anything else seems to be a lot to be desire for just what to do in the Instructions... I didn`t Know You wrote that ,But Thought someone had because that's the only part of all their functions That seems to be Described GOOD Thanks for that.. Also thanks for clearing up a lot on the other stuff within,I never bought the software just to do TPS resets , So You have cleared it up somewhat I think, I`ll play with it some more and Get comfortable with it before going on to do TPS etc. |

I know this has been asked before, and I even asked Techno via email, but got no response. Are there any plans to add a static timing check to the program???? |

I've been using the DL on my 03 9S since July and have gotten very comfortable with it(thanks Al), I have been able to get a decently nice tune on it. The current mods include, open airbox(homemade from clear lexan), Force Streetfighter Race pipe(with baffles), it also has a Hero Blue '06 airbox cover with the screen above the gas cap. With the factory race kit installed on the bike when I purchased it, the bike ran very well. After installing the Force pipe, it ran a little better. When i drilled holes in the factory airbox lid, performance went south, and drivability suffered greatly. Thats when i gave ol' Al a call and ordered the DL. Since then I have managed to get the tune back(with a few calls to Al in the process). Now the bike is an animal(with a loud scream). But the drivability is a little off, not bad just a hiccup every now and again.I'm not even for sure if its the tuning or something mechanical or electrical.I know that i will eventually hit the perfect tune. I visit Technos website frequently(to keep updated). I wish they would make the DL PDA compatible.Any word on that Al? Anyway just wanted to throw some more props to Al. Thanks for being a Bueller and a great guy. |

I doubt DL will get PDA capability, but I'm pushing real hard to get AFV added to the PDA version of VDSTS. With a PDA reading AFV, you can hook it up, turn on logging, and just go for a ride. Come back to the shop, download the log file into VDSTS running on the PC, and see how and where the AFV is changing. With that info, you could get the whole closed loop learn mode map dialed in perfectly, and then the tuning that you did in open loop would be unscaled. Mine doesn't hiccup except in the first 5 miles on a cold engine. Terry and I talked about this the other day. The ECM turns off warm up fuel before the engine gets fully up to operating temperature. I'm 100% convinced that the hiccups that I have on mine are associated with the transition when warm up fuel is turned off. A freer flowing intake and exhaust does seem to exacerbate the issue a little, but it really isn't a big deal on my micron equipped Uly. It only does one or two coughs, then no more until the engine is completely cooled again. Al |

Al, That info for : With a PDA reading AFV, you can hook it up, turn on logging, and just go for a ride. Come back to the shop, download the log file into VDSTS running on the PC, and see how and where the AFV is changing. With that info, you could get the whole closed loop learn mode map dialed in perfectly, and then the tuning that you did in open loop would be unscaled. But With that Info one still can`t insert that into the DL and just a matter of making changes there,Or is this cruise thing still plm. I `m still talking about going with the 88 or 90 kit on my 12`s .. Wd. any of the above help with tuning the larger kits on the 12.. I know the 9`s seem like alot easier to dial in as even with the big bore kit on these you are still only at or around the stock displacement of the 12 anyways.. Terry making any progress on the big 88 or 90 kits yet.. Sitting here for the last year now as I know many are waiting to HEAR you and Terry got the Big bores kit dialed in??? Damn Fuel Injection! Limits! |

I just spent the last hour or mORE... in the Search mode, either I have not checked it right or.... I cannot find out with regards to the VDSTS... DAMN .. IT would have been nice IF the Suppliers of this Software wd. have sent a complete copy of ,Now what are they called INSTRUTIONS so not only one can see in plain English how to do tps resets, BUT all the other features on how to read trouble codes, del stored codes, AFV ratios, and so on and so on... Perhaps its just me Getting senile in my old age, BUT sure wd. be nice to see it in black and White.... Would make a really good Sticky for this forum for all to SEE ALL functions of what and how to use these functions! The TPS reset I think I got a handle on that its just everything else...Sorry if this is just an old timer nagging on... |

Update about VDSTS PDA Functionality: Since sometime in the fall of 2006, the VDSTS package became platform specific at the $195 price. That is, the $195 version is for EITHER the PDA or the PC, but not both. I don't know the exact date it changed, the TR folks had told me they were going to make that change but never actually told me that they had. All of the VDSTS packages that A.S.B. sold over the past few months are apparently PC only. If you bought it from me expecting to use it on a PDA, contact me. If you want to buy it with dual platform capability, you can get it that way, and you don't need to pay $195 x2. The dual platform capability version is now $249. I'll update our website today. IF you're going to be doing log files using a PDA, and then viewing them on a PC, you'll really want the dual platform version. Sorry for any confusion on that, I just was ordering a bunch more kits and found out myself. Al |
