In September I bought a 99 s3t off of ebay. Perfect condition and 4500 miles. As I read other stories on Bad Web, I notice that there are tremendous deals, all of the time, on low mileage Buells. Why is that? Are people buying these bikes just to look at them? I know some of you are putting serious mileage on these, but I am surprised at how many of these bikes are sold after 5 or more years, with less than 5K on the clock for less than 5 thousand dollars. Hey, my bike is beautiful, but I plan on doubling the mileage on it in one riding season (6 months in Canada). Is there a reason, or should I accept the fact that I got a great deal and ride on? | ||

Last year I bought a 5 year old bike with 300 miles on it. The owner bought it on a whim and lost interest. Pretty common - I'll bet that all the miles were put on in the first month, got distracted, never got back to riding, and finally decided to clean the garage. Happens with all marques, for this and lots of other reasons. As you say, just accept your good fortune - and appreciate that someone else paid through the nose so you didn't have to! | ||

My favorite is touring bikes with less than one oil change of milage in them. You see it all the time in my neck of the woods. | ||

I have 25k on my 1999 S3T. I bought it in 2001. For what ever reason it sat on the dealer floor for 2 yrs. When I got it I was averaging about 10k per yr but then I had a little girl. She has kept me so busy I really dont get to ride much. On top of the I now have a son too who keeps me equally busy. And now it is winter and the bike is headed to the shop for a little work so that maybe I can ride a little next year.... Honestly there is so much that you can do with the S3T and it is fairly simple to maintain. If you are even slightly mechanically inclined, you can do some of the work if you have the right tools. Just my 2 cents... | ||

Have an '02 M2 Cyclone. Only has like 6000 miles on it. Don't get to ride it as much as I'd like too due to being busy about 19 hours a day out of my 24 available. I hope to spend most of this year sitting in the saddle. I love to ride it but I almost think that's because I don't ride it everyday. -Barge | ||

I think all bikes are like that for some reason, not just buells. It seems that 90% of the used bikes I've looked at have between 5k and 20k miles. No matter what year or type of bike. | ||

Some people buy bikes for leisure. My '96 S1 was purchased in 2001 with 3100 miles and 2 previous owners. | ||

Makes me wonder... Bought my '99 X1 in '05 with 4200 miles and 2 previous owners. I quickly doubled that mileage. | ||

A lot of people buy motorcycles because they are in love with the idea of riding. Others buy them as status symbols and they become garage ornaments. The reality of riding and the focus required is too much for some people and they end up parking a great bike because they don't like to actually ride, but they do not want to admit it to their friends, and they like having an excuse to wear leather  | ||

I bought my 99 S3 last winter with 5k on it for low $$ too! As someone who will probably not be able to treat himself to a factory fresh bike until sometime after both my kids are through college (2015 if I am lucky), I feel very fortunate that there are people willing to buy a bike for me, keep in in a heated garage, and then insist I give them 30 cents on the dollar for it! ![: ]](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/proud.gif) | ||

As we get older, we accumulate more than one toy. My 95 S2 (for sale) has 6800 mi; the 97 M2 has 1083 mi; the 03 Ultra has 21K, the 56 Bel Aire has 122K - plus my 06 truck has 9K. Riding season here in the mountains is not really long (but I rode the M2 today - 52 degrees & sunny). Part of my appreciation for my bikes is love of mechanical things; I enjoy looking and tinkering as well as riding. Somehow, being a member of this site seems to encourage ownership of more than one bike. Scott_in_nh hit the nail on the head that we preserve bikes for others to enjoy later. I have all of these plus a family to take care of. After 7 years of ownership I still have never put my car on the road and don't really care to. Rain or shine, cold or scorching, I'd rather ride. | ||
