Would you get bored?

I was reviewing race results at Loudon for the past 2 years (was trying to prove a point on another subject, but couldn't find lap times to support my theory), and I came across a racer riding a ZX10R named Scott Greenwood. Very impressive lap times, and he seems to win almost every race he entered for the past 2 years. At that point, I have to ask... why not go pro? Or at least move on to a larger regional championship series? This can't be fun or challenging anymore for him. How many others are there like this?

In all fairness to Scott, I haven't met him and I am not attacking his character.

Scott is indeed a very good rider, but at the AMA National level he is top 20 only. He has run some AMA events. That's the gap between pros and club racers. He would be fast` at an AMA race at Loudon, but they don't run there anymore.

If he went completely pro, he would probably get faster at other tracks, but that takes money, money and more money, as well as a huge time commitment. If he is riding good equipment and getting better every time he runs at his local track, it's hard to say if that's not fun for him. I rode the AMA National series for a few years, and it just burns you out. Challenging, yes, but not a lot of fun with little money. Club racing was much more fun. He can and may also teach schools with Penguin at Loudon.

You are correct about Scott in that he has raced in some AMA races. He primarily races in CCS/ASRA though, and then mostly in the Northeast. You will often find him at Summit Point, WV. In fact, if you read the Loudin race results going back a few years, it is almost like you have to have "wood" somewhere in your name to be in the whose who.

He hangs out with the Wood brothers, and on a good day, can almost keep up with them...almost. I suspect that on equal equipment that they may be pretty close, but I suspect that Scott is riding bikes without all of the bells and whistles that the Woods have.

I have met him a few times and he is a very nice guy. I think he teaches in their Penguin school as you mentioned, or at least he has in the past. He is no spring chicken however, so professional AMA racing may not be in the cards.

Scott Jensen had started out in CCS and within a season was winning everything and got bored. A buddy talked him into AMA and he promptly had his ASS handed to him. He loved it. Still races SBK (AMA 61) every season.

If I were to win every race, it would be because I had a buddy secretly working the other racers' pits with sugar cubes... it'd be cheaper than bribery ;)
