I was wondering if anyone makes a carb conversion kit for the XB's. I am getting ready to build a mutnant and would like to eliminate alot of the wiring headaches. Thank you! |

I don't know why a dyna ignition and a carb wouldn't work just fine. I've been thinking about this a lot myself. Eliminate electronics and replace with components that I understand and can work on when needed. No BAS, no kickstand switch, No superflous junk that I don't want. Should be no more dealership visits - ever. A stock CV carb can be modified to work very well. |

Remember the XB requires a downdraft carb- there's not room to fit the usual Harley sidedraft carburetor because the heads sit up between the sides of the frame. Someone here fit a downdraft snowmobile carb to an XB several years ago. That's one route you could take. |

The XB's require a downdraft even though the engine will be in a mutant frame? |

Sorry- I missed the bit about the Mutant frame. Don't know if the intake can be rotated 90 or not, but since there are some carbureted XB powered choppers out there, it must be possible. |

Carbs are cake. If you're running a Mutant frame, you can just pick up an intake for any carb Evo XL engine (HD or Buell). The stock CVs are pretty good, especially for the money. Keep in mind, that in order to mount it, you'll need to drill out the plugs for the breathers on the front side of the heads. All the internals are there, but they plug them up on the Buells since the breathers are in the rocker boxes. On the XLs (and I imagine the older Buells as well) the breathers are on the front of the heads flanking the carb on either side. Very simple procedure. |

If you are doing this for a race bike, I may have useful info. I believe the Bartels' Race Shop switched from FI to carbs on their race bike which, I think, is a Firebolt. You might talk to Bill Bartels at the dealership, www.bartels-hd.com, for more details. Someone at the race shop can probably answer your questions, but I don't know how to contact them except through Bill. |
