I bought my XB9R used. The previous owner didn't do many mods, but he did remove the rear brake reservoir and hose, and replace it with a four inch piece of braided steel over rubber hose. It's capped with an allen bolt. It's an interesting look, but I wanted to go back to stock. So I bought a rear master cylinder, reservoir and hose on eBay. When I pulled off the seat, I couldn't find anyplace to mount the reservoir. The manual shows it located at the left front of the underseat area, but there is no bracket or mounting point there. There's not even a place where something was ground off. Can someone who has the reservoir tell me how it mounts? thanks, Dave | ||

Ref 03 XB9R: there is a approx 1/2 x 2" tab welded horizontal and pointing to the right side on the left upright in the rear subframe. It has a hole for mounting the reservoir. Also the trans breather hose rests under the reservoir and points inward too, same direction as the tab. So, does your 4" piece of braided steel hose function as the reservoir? | ||

Spark -- old racer's trick -- the hose does act as the reservoir -- cept, a chuck of braied hose is likely heavier than the stock piece, and I guarentee the allen doesn't seal as well as the stocker does -- not an issue if you're rebuilding and replacing fluids between races -- | ||

Thanks for the info. That's pretty much what I figured it would look like. I went out tonight to look, and there's no bracket like that. I took some pictures to make sure I'm looking in the right place. I think the bracket should be on the upright to the left of the spring  Here's a better view of the upright  Here's a top view  Am I just not seeing it? Dave | ||

Thang -- how do you type the raspberry noise? ;-} Wilson -- although I don't have an XB series, I'd take a look nearer the rear master cylinder if I was you -- I think the reservoir is mounted close to the cylinder . . . . | ||

Dave, what is that disruption on the surface of the upright just above the orange wire in the second pic? That is about where the tab is on my 9R. | ||

Sparky, I figured nobody would grind off the tab and paint over it. But I had the seat off today and I looked closely. And it looks like someone ground off the tab and painted over it. Why would somebody do that? I think the subframe would have to come off to be able to grind in there. It's not like the bike's been modified. The only other change on it was LED turn signals. Anyway, I'll cut a new tab, drill it, and mig weld it back on. I think I can do it with the subframe on. thanks, Dave |
