i have read quite a bit about this and am unsure yet what i am going to do but i was wondering about removing the stock plastic lp bracket. what all needs to be done to remove this? is there an easy way or should i just go tear into it. by the way i have a 2000 x1. and i need to get rid of the stock lp bracket the looks are killing me.

I unbolted mine, and and lef tit all open and exposed for a while. It is now welded with a piece of 2mm alluminium underneath, and all polished up..... I had it riveted for a while, the tail is alloy, you can pretty much do as you wish with it...

There's lots of threads on this

You can buy a complete kit from Al @ American Sportbike, I have the Banke one , it fits easy and really cleans up the lines.

You can mangle the plastic back there and end up with a working solution, nice write up here or you can go all out an fabricate something nice. Pics are on the same link

yeah i have done quite a few searches but did not find really anything on the removal of the tail section. i did find alot of stuff on fabing a new lp bracket and also buying aftermarket. i am however going to fab something up. not sure yet what. i am going to have to tear into it and see what all it takes to keep the front part of the glove box and remove the rear lp bracket. just getting ready to tear into it now. thanks for the link.

In all honesty, there is no real need to keep that front par of the box. Mine is one solid sheet of aluminium, from the tail light, right up to the oil lines... There is one trimmed piece, inside, to make a compartment, where the cross brace is(where the ECM tray mounts).. Though I have NO KEY.. I havent been able to find the barrel set-up for the rear, for quite some time...

My 2 cents

Thats my main issue with the X1's styling is that big aluminum bracket. Well that and the big honkin airbox.

Which "big aluminium bracket" are talking about? The tail section? The part of the tail the tail-light mounts to?

I trimmed my tail-light mount, as I have a nice low profile LED set-up, that tucks up in there rather well...

I need a camera...ha..

I understand that much, BUT, the front part, is the same depth whether you use the sock plastic or make one, or buy an undertail.

What I would do, is tuck the PC up into the rear of the tail(in a way to still allow you to plug into it with the computer), and go from there. I keep an extra set of glasses or 2 in my tail, and extra pack of smokes, a set of gloves, and occasionally, if I am feeling lazy, and dont wanna shave my head, a hat... There is still room, just wont be able to carry a tool kit.

Well, then in all honesty, you would be best off with the Banke kit offered by Al @ American Sport Bike, or the carbon fiber one he has..

Both take all the hassel out of it. But, you will pay for it.

I had no intention of going back to stock, so welding mine up, was the bast option.

But, its all up to you. And that flytrap is a slick option....

My 2 cents
