How do you get manifold seals to seal properly?? I have found a leak on the top side of my intake manifold. I replaced the rubber seals with new ones but I still have a leak in the same spot. It doesn't look like anything is warped and there are no gouges or scrapes on the manifold. I tightened them down evenly. I must be doing something wrong. What is it? |

Where is the leak, at the cylinder head or on the inlet side of the manifold where it mates to the carburetor of your Cyclone? |

The leak is on the cylinder head side of the manifold towards the top. |

I've not ever suffered the trouble you describe, so I'm at a loss. I do recall the manifold being a bit stubborn to get into place and it seemed like it would be possible to miss getting it positioned well.
Are you following the service manual? The torque on those fasteners is surprisingly light. |

I tried it the manual way and torqued everything to 6 to 10 ft lbs and both sides leaked like crazy. I tightened them down a bit more and the one intake seals great the other still leaks on the top half. Now maybe I'm not putting the seals in right. I'm putting the fat side of the seal towards the cylinder. and I have it flush with the manifold and flange. I also noticed on the flange that there is a grove around it. This is facing the cylinder also. The other side is smooth maybe it was installed wrong I'm not sure. Any more ideas? Thanks |

The manifold is aluminum. Any chance it was warped, or possibly damaged in some way? If it ever got dropped, or something??
Sounds like you're installing the seals and the flanges correctly... |

When installing mine I always use black silcone gasket maker on the area that touches the head.. |

Coat manifold seals with silicone grease or spray before assembly. This will help them "flow" into position during torquing. Some silicone sealers will affect o2 sensors. |

I tried everything everyone said but still didn't work but I honestly believe HD and then a private shop gave me wrong seals. I was told by S&S that their seals are a little thinner then HD but of course HD says they are the same. A private shop also said S&S are thinner but the ones they gave me were too big so I'm going back with the manifold in hand and hopefully will get the right ones. Then I'll try it all over again. Thanks for the suggestions |

Update! Went back and this time got the right seals. Lubed it up good, stuff was sliding everywhere. Put it on tightened it down and holy crap it was sealed!! Thanks for the help everyone |
