Greetings, SoCal Buellers, The info below was just emailed to the new SoCal Area Buellers mail list. If you did not get it, and wanted to, ping me and I'll get you added/corrected on the list. Greetings, SoCal Buellers, The proposed plan for the early December SCAB meeting is described below. I'm up in the bay area next Monday for the annual A.S.B.N. December anniversary meeting, and will be doing some dyno mapping work during the rest of the week there, so I can't meet during the week. The weekend after is the annual Long Beach Cycle World IMS Show. So Eric and I thought that having a Saturday brunch meeting followed by going to the show for those so inclined would be a good plan. We're doing Saturday because more other Buellers seem to be going to the show that day, and there are better deals at the shopping places at the show on Saturday (but the real deals are Friday eve, if you must buy something.....) We haven't settled on the even month meeting schedule/location is since Thursdays at Knollwoods are out. One of the possibilities that has been discussed is to do Wednesday's at Bravo Burger in Huntington Beach, since that is a big bike night there. So Eric and I thought that we'd have the Saturday Brunch meeting there. It opens at 6AM, and have a breakfast and lunch menu, and is in a reasonable geographical center for folks that come to these things. And it's only 17 miles from the convention center. So, lets do this: 9:30 Saturday, December 9th, be at the Bravo Burger in Huntington Beach, here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=19102+ Beach+Blvd,+Huntington+Beach,+CA&daddr=300+East+Oc ean+Boulevard,+Long+Beach,+CA+90802&sll=37.0625,-9 5.677068&sspn=69.487882,97.558594&ie=UTF8&z=11&om= 1 We'll do our usual stuff, including Eric's Laguna Seca report, figure out when/where the January ride is (Death Valley Daze?), decide where/when the February even month meeting should be (Bravo Burger Wednesday? Sunday Brunch? something else?), do the LS Camping fund raffle, etc. I have three free IMS show tickets for the raffle. Then those wanting to go can go to the IMS show. We'll get there by 11-11:30, which still gives plenty of time to see everything. I'm not hard over on doing it Saturday or at 9:30 if folks want to change that. Comments welcome. Al |

Alert: Eric and a couple others say Sunday (our usual ride/meeting day), not Saturday. He says if you want real deals at the IMS show, you have to go Friday eve, not Saturday. So, belay that, change to SUNDAY, 9:30AM, Bravo Burger, Huntington Beach. Oh yea, due to the authoritarian, over zealous, noise hating, Huntington Beach Police force tactics, we will be entering and exiting Bravo Burger from the 405 Freeway, NOT the coastal route. They don't like loud pipes in Huntington beach and will ticket heavily along the coastal routes, so we aren't going there. Bravo Burger is just a couple blocks off the freeway. I'll send out a mail later tonight when I get home from work saying the same thing. Matt, I'll add you first. Al |

...and being an HB resident, I can tell you they have been in force recently, although mostly on PCH. My Buell is stock again, but my 1250 Sporty is loud and I haven't been popped yet. The key is having full riding gear, riding mellow, and keeping the revs down. 95% it is the motors who care most cops in cars will leave you alone. Hope that helps. I can't go Sunday - GF's b-day. --Sean |

Next race weekend at Willow Springs, our Glendale HD/Buell racing group is hosting a Saturday Night "PARTY IN THE PITS!" We're funding it out of our treasury so just come on out and eat! I'll post up more details but leave the afternoon of Saturday the 16th open and come on out. Stay for Sunday's racing too. Sunday lunch is always free for our friends who come to visit (til the food runs out) - paid for by our recycling! |

Got the mail, thanks Al. I grew up around the area, so I know the HB cops can be real dicks, but personally never been hassled on a bike in HB. I have however seen quite a few suids getting rolled up for being just plain stupid. Gotta obey those speed limit signs and keep your rpm's down. I nod and wave at the cops in the area, use my turn signals, give right of way, etc. So perhaps that's why I've had good luck. |

Anybody going to be at the show tomorrow? I have to work on Sunday so I won't be able to go with the SCAB group. I was going to do the demo rides in the morning then head into the show in the afternoon or sooner if the lines get to long for the demo rides. |

I am going to be working the Buell booth - stop in and say HI! I'll be wearing the blue/white Buell shirt - Lavin-Yurassov Racing - Glendale HD/Buell. This'll be kinda interesting - a racer and CUSTOMER doing Buell booth duty at the IMS! Sunny will be there in "uniform" too.

Yeah, maybe we'll stop by for breakfast and see you guys. Hey Slaughter, say hi to Matty for me, since I won't be able to attend the show this year. He e-mailed and said he'd be working the booth too. --Sean |

Brian, Come on by. I've done a ton of suspension tuning, adjusting and fiddling - and in January will be changing to the 43mm forks with Traxxion AK-20 cartridges. Seems I'm always fooling with something! I've probably studied the suspension more than anything else on the little beastie. See you in a few hours! The weather channels show the weather clearing during the night, tomorrow morning should be partly cloudy with the rain ending before 8:00 AM. Or not. We'll still be at the Bravo Burger in Huntington beach for Breakfast at 9:30, and heading to the IMS show 1.5 hours later. I'll be at breakfast, but I've been reduced to an invalid by a lower back injury with bad Sciatica, so I can't go to the show since I can't stand for any length of time. I'll have at least 4 free tickets to the IMS show for the raffle, plus other raffle goodies. See you around 9:30 at the BBurger. Al |

We did! It was good to see you and Sunny on Saturday. I think this is the busiest show we've ever been to - it was packed. Got there around 9am, and didn't leave until 3:30. Finished the day off by having an early dinner at Joe Josts - oldest pub in LB Cheers -Jack |

Any of you So. Calif. people know what the skinny is going on with Neptune's Net up past Malibu? I had a friend tell me a couple months ago that he was warned he couldn't park in front of the restaurant because the alloted 25 bike maximum had been taken. After moving to the side back by the restrooms, the valet parking people told him it was reserved for automobiles and that he would have to park across the street. It then escalated into a "I have tags and every bit the same rights a car and the bike is going to stay." There were counter threats of the sheriffs coming, but he left the motorcycle and went in for lunch. This was on a Sunday, when just a month before I witnessed a good hundred plus bikes there, and as long as I can remember that is how it has always been. The last couple of months since then that I have driven by in my car, it has looked pretty barren by comparison. Has Ventura County been pressured into trying to control the "motorcycle element" or are the real estate factions with their fancy mega dollar homes trying to drive Neptune's Net out of business so they can snatch up the property? Anyone with some insight let me know. |

On one of the SV boards they had the discussion and apparently your suspicions were correct - they ARE squeezed by the locals They are limited to 25 parking spots for motorcycles and 49 cars. (below from the other site): "Only thing is that they no longer allow bikes to park in the parking lot. I received a flyer from one of the employees stating that there Ventura County Permit agreement allows parking for 25 motorcycles and 49 cars at one time. So they highly suggest that you park on Pacific Coast Highway. So for all of you who frequent Neptunes should already know this but be prepared to possibly park on PCH." |

Funny thing about that, parking lots are private property, and I'd wager that permit is based on the local fire department codes. It is my belief that they are interpreting the permit to suit the restaurant owner's preference. A bike has every right to park in a "car space" but here's the sticky wicket: A bike holds at most 2 customers, most cars can hold at least double that. Bikes are hurting business by taking car spaces because people who arrive in cars are generally going to be less willing to park outside the lot and walk back to the restaurant. The permit only mentions motorcycles because they have a designated area for bikes and the total number is based on what the fire marshal believes can be evacuated from the lot in an expedient manner. If a bike is in a car spot then it counts as a car. I've been round and round on this subject with local parking lot owners while trying to find a place to put my truck at night. That's just my take on it. If push came to shove, and you parked your bike in a car space, one bike only, the city can not impound it for doing so. The owner would have to get it towed at his expense by a private company, and most private tow companies won't touch that job. The last thing they want is expensive litigation over whether the car was rightfully removed from private property. Tow companies like clean hook and drops, not headaches. The restaurant owner is the guy to take issue with, not Ventura County. Of course he'll deny it. |

I'm still curious as to what changed in the last few months. Were the parking permits always there but just ignored till now, or is this a new law? I would have a hard time believing the ownership just decided to do this on their own because if anyone has seen this place on a nice weekend, it is a money making machine. I have gladly waited an hour for lunch there before just because of the atmosphere and people present. |

We'll do a SCAB (So Cal Area Buellers) ride this Sunday, January 7th. We'll meet early at Cooks corner for breakfast at 9:45. Eat breakfast, BS for a while, do the normal Laguna Seca updates and raffle for LS $$. Then we'll take Trabuco Canyon Road to Antonio parkway down to Ortega, take Ortega to Killen trail. Take Killen trail backwards, come out on the Deluz end of things. Loop through that neck of the woods on some of those cool Murrieta orange grove back roads out to Temecula. LA folks with a schedule can loop back from there up through Elsinore to cross back over Ortega, or those with more time on their hands head down Pala to 76. From there, we can either loop east on 76 (palomar and/or Mesa Grande) or wander southwestward towards 76/Oceanside, depending on whether we have southbound zaks or northbound zaks in our midst. Not a whole lot of elevation in this ride, so temperatures should be nice. Tom and I will be leaving Bigg's HD in OCEANSIDE (not SM) at 8:30 AM if anyone is interested in riding up there with us. Cell is 760-685-3583 if you need to reach me there at 8:25 AM |

Willow Springs racing is happening this coming weekend. Friday and Saturday practice, racing Sunday! If any of you are thinking of trying a track day, they offer a trackday every Friday ahead of the race day Sunday. Sunday is always free lunch in the pits for anybody who comes out. Hope to see some of you out there... if everything goes OK on Friday and Saturday, I'll be returning to racing on Sunday~! |

TRACK DAY!!! March 19th (Monday) The staff of Glendale Buell has pulled together a track day at the Streets of Willow - Willow Springs. This is NOT restricted to Buells - though of course, we are going to see a BUNCH of us out there with our Buell race and streetbikes. This is going to be filmed, we will be bringing some of our racebikes out as well so feel free to come out, bring your streetbikes and if you're a little uncertain about how to prep the bike for a track day, just come on out early and I or one of the others can help get you ready. We will find out if Glendale can negotiate a lower rate with a good group but for the moment, it is at $125. I will post up information as it becomes available. If you haven't yet done a track day with all of us, you don't know how much fun you've been missing! PM me if you have questions. This is going to be serious good fun. |
