Howdy! My 2001 S3 is still cutting out and stalling from 1000 to 3000 rpm.

It’s an intermittent problem, some times its really bad, other times a major annoyance.
Using VDSTS, I am getting this historical error:
ERROR CODE 11 Throttle Position Sensor Open Circuit / Short Circuit to Battery.

I followed a few (but not all)the trouble shooting procedures in the shop manual and did the following:
a. I looked for a bad connection at ecm.
b. I jiggled the wire harness while opening the throttle and looking at the TPS voltage.
c. I did find that the connector from the wire harness to the TPS seemed corroded, so I cleaned its pins and sockets.

I went for a 250 mile ride with my brother today and my S3 was still acting the same, although for the last 20 miles it cleared up. My brothers 2000 X1 has 17,000 miles, a race ecm and SuperTrap Slip-on and runs perfect through all rpms, and has more punch!

I have not gone as far as to remove the TPS, because I don’t want to do a re-set unless I really have to. But I may need to remove it to test all the wires in it?

I am ready to buy a new TPS and a Race ECM – but I would rather actually find the problem!

Has anyone encountered the ERROR CODE 11?
If so, were you able to solve the puzzle?

The tps sensor is a "pot" and every time you move the throttle handle it moves, the wiper over the resistance material will wear, weather corosion etc take their toll
I would replace the TPS and re zero it.

I've gotten error code 11 on my '99 S3. My TPS was bad and required replacement. I installed a new one and my buddy zeroed the TPS. Been good ever since.

It might be a good idea to remove the tank and look down on it.
I had some chafed wires on my TPS.

In my case, I found it before it actually got to touch anything
but if it was to ground to the frame, the computer would be very confused.

Another oddity that I discovered when I was under there was the connector.
It is a cute there pronged affair and that itself wasn't what was odd.
What was odd was that there was a plastic anchor thing on it like it was supposed to be tied to something.
I found NOTHING that it could possibly reach that had anything to hold it.

Try this, When you have your S3 hooked up to your VDSTS go to the Guages/Meters display. Thats the display I use. Switch one of the channels to show throttle pos. volts. Connect to ecm then without the bike running very slowly turn the throttle watching the volt reading. any spikes or drops or opens should show up. This worked for me to find out I had a bad TPS.

One more thing the voltage range is .5-1.5 volts closed 3.9-4.9 volts wide open

Thanks Guys, I really appreciate the help.
Surprisingly Cowboy Harley had a TPS! With tax it came to 35.40.
Interesting side note, the Harley dealer has sales cubicles in the middle of the show-room complete with desk a chairs. Odd thing is, the cubicle walls are waist high wood panels continued with 5 feet of vertical steel bars, each cubicle looks like a prison cell! Ugggg... I asked the sales person why, because it looked totaly unfriendly towards the customer. He had no clue. It was bizarre.
At any rate, more buell entertainment.
