I have ben posting for years on XB and QB, but this is my first time posting in this forum... I've been riding an XB9S for 3 years. I am considering buying a low mileage 2001 M2L for some 2 up riding. I have always liked the look of the Cyclone, but don't know much about them. What should I be looking for on a M2L? How are they for 2 up riding? What parts are different between the M2 and M2L? Thanks! (Message edited by tpoppa on November 17, 2006) |

I think the only difference is suspension travel and the seat. |

The seat is an inch lower. The fork springs are different as well as the rear shock and mount. The kickstand is also shorter due to the lower suspension height. I know because I unknowingly purchased one and looked into changing it to a standard M2. Instead, I just got a standard seat and added padding! 6'2" and went the cheap way. Also raised the pegs up......they scrape a little |

Dj and Aceboy are spot on, suspension and seat. I would say for 2 up riding, get the standard M2 and add a Corbin Gunfighter and Lady seat. I found that the stock seat pretty much sucks, M2 and M2L .. I swapped mine for a Corbin because I get pushed into the tank too much, I guess the M2L seat is just as bad if not worse. I added the Corbin G&L (even though I wanted a solo) and I have to say it improves everything- no more sliding in the tank, and a sculpted rear to prevent your passenger from sliding into you on bumps or braking, you also have the option of a backrest with that seat. My wife was told by a fellow rider (Steve Mackay) to just push on his hips when coming to a stop or slowing for a curve, her response was "He has no hips !!" I am not a big guy, just tall .. 6'2" @170lbs .. my wife is 5'8" about 145 .. So we don't add a ton of weight, but the stock suspension leaves a little to be desired for 2 up, you either set it for 2 up or solo, there really isn't a happy medium. Based on that - go with the standard M2 as well, for the extra ground clearance and suspension travel. My opinion would be the standard M2 with a different seat. Tune the suspension specifically for 2 up, and you both will be happy with the ride. Brian |

Were there any common mechanical failures on the 2001 M2L? |

i think they worked out most of the bugs by 01 - before then there was primary tensioner, exhaust hanger, rear shock for upgrades/recall and 00 or 01 got the tach too! |

last june at americade my wife rode on the back of my cyclone while her trike got serviced. she commented that she was surprised at howe comfortable accommodations were. she would not object to being a passenger again but she prefers to ride her own. handling of course suffers when you put human size weight high onabove the rear wheel so don't expect sporty handling, just capable commuting |

I own regular M2 with gunfighter and lady and it has been two up in nine states. I have works performance rear shock on it and my wife and I had a great trip. I can't comment on the low model other then to say suspension set up will be important. |
