Sorry for the delayed response -- I've had my regulator mounted in a similar place for about 20K miles now, and it has not failed --

I did fab a plate to mount it, but ran the ground wire from it to a known good ground (negative battery terminal, so I think it's well grounded. My Y2K MaDeuce had the ground wire on it (don't know about earlier models), so grounding through the mounting fasteners was a non-starter, so far as the factory was concerned . . . .

this thread is so cool . . . .thanks for sharing the pics, gents!

Very cool. I must say I'm a bit jealous of your progress, and of the fact that you can wear shorts and flip flops right now-we had snow last week...
Brodie looks to be a chip off the old block
I got your pulley Friday and it will be in the mail tomorrow, so you should have it in your hands by weeks end...
Enjoy...

I just bought an XB header pipe off ebay that i'm going to modify for my new exhaust.
Will take pictures once I "get the dam thing done" : )
I hope to get the whole exhaust system ceramic coated silver/aluminium colour.

Where's your pictures Corey? : )

I modified my lathe today so I could fit the rear pulley in to machine it.

I will have to paint it as it has alot of pin holes from the casting.

I started by welding up the 5 original holes. Had to take a little metal out of the bed of the lathe as the diameter of the pulley was just a little to big.

here are a series of pictures of the pulleys transformation...

As always excellent work Jodie,

in reference to my e-mail, I may have a slightly bent rear shock, it was a 10 dollar e-bay item so I wouldn't be surprised...

here's a pic of where I'm at. Most will notice the lack of final drive-I still have to get the axle to wheel area figured out as I need to install new bearings in the wheel that match the the OD of the axle in the contact areas. I also need to get the front sprocket on but since I wanted to tack down the crank bearing I figured I would put that on while i was in there, thus it had to wait until the motor was back in the bike as I don't have any other way to work on it. This will give me my final ride height and let me know where my chain will sit and dictate ultimately if I need to move my front mount further forward or not. I like the ride height where it sits currently but I don't believe that I will be able to find a combination of pulleys that will allow for clearance of the swingarm mount block-especially when the rear wheel gets unloaded on some of the back country roads here in Ohio: )
The rear subframe will be a bolt on unit that I am still building and which will most probably house the battery along with the electrical support. I have a few other pics of earlier mock-ups, welding, and the like but my home computer takes soo long to load that I may try to find some time at work to add them in.
Your bike is coming along very nicely Jodie and I look forward to seeing the finished product.
Corey

hey I think I finally got this image upload thing figured out. I still have a lot more work to do, especially when compared to you Jodie, but it has been coming together nicely with only one real hiccup thus far.

Corey thats looking real good, thats some serious ride height you've got going there. Have you sorted out the issue that we talked about with the rear shock?
Looks like a Vortex sprocket nice.

Thanks Jodie. Yea, I think the problem was with the shock. When I put the tape to the swingarm and also to the frame everything lined up perfectly, so I'm looking for a new shock. The vortex unit was pretty cheap considering, hell I got the PBI front, the vortex rear and RK 520 for less than 200 bucks. I'm hoping to get into my cam box this week and thus put the front chain wheel on, which will give me a better idea of where I'm at with the chain clearance issue. I haven't gotten the rear bearings for my wheel yet, but using the measurement you gave me they should go into my wheel with a little bit of coaxing. After that I will still probably have to make up a new axle because my wheel seems to be more narrow than the newer XB wheels. That pic above was the first time I had put it all together with the motor in it, but I really like the way it is sitting. I'm hoping I can keep it that way but that will all depend how everything looks once I get the chainwheels in their proper spots.

Corey have you tried using a piece of straight steel in place of the shock to check for alignment before you buy another shock. Be a shame to waste the cash and find it was not the problem.

Yep, and I actually did that, I also found a center point in the swingarm mount block and it lined up with the center point for the swingarm shock mount. I also lined up the front mount in the same fashion and they all worked out, so that is the only thing it could be. I'll worry about it a little more once I get the front pulley and cam box taken care of, but like you were saying, my frame can't be that bent, and my swingarm alignment within the block and thus where it sits in the frame were spot on, so i will check some more. I'll see if I can get a pic posted of what it looks like from the rear. In regards to the ride height I'm hoping to stay that way-as it has the same swingarm angles as the XB's but I don't think I will be able to keep it that high/steep. This also brought my front wheel in closer which allowed me to bring the trees back up to the top of the forks, as I had been riding around with them about 1" lower to increase the steering angle a bit. All in all it has been a fun geometry project: )

The whiskey is a loose family tradition given for new arrivals. I wasn't sure how much american whisky you got over there, but that is my favorite brand. There are quite a few new brands popping up that may well be better but I haven't tried them yet. If its not Jim Beam and grape kool-aid(how's that for redneck) then it's gotta be M&M on the rocks. Enjoy. I'm glad you got it as I was worried about customs getting all up tight about it. That pulley is worth the money just on how good it looks-Baker did an excellent job on thier stuff. Definitely a cool dress up item with function.

CeeJay, It looks like you have a straight bar for the handle bar right now... any clearance issues with the tank? Is that what you plan on using when you get up and running, or just for mockup.

G'day Ceejay I have just received my XB header from ebay(top seller!): )
Here it is mocked up on my junk yard bike!
Will use pieces of my old header to make it all fit tomorrow. Once i'm happy with it I'll get it ceramic coated...I like how it covers the front of the cam cover...
No chance of burning the right knee on it either...sits nice and close unlike the stock header...Will hopefully be getting all the bodywork painted soon with my Christmas bonus...Also pictured is the Odyssey battery and the battery box I've started to make(much heavier duty than the stock one...
I hope your bikes coming along well and your new bub is'nt keeping you up to much

Cheers
Jodie

TWD-it is a straight bar, but I just put it on there to wheel around the garage. It won't clear the tank lock to lock, it might with the bumper stops, but I don't have 'em on.

sleez-I'm putting on an XBs low seat. It is a bit tougher than you might think to make it look right. I have cut off the old sub frame, and am having a tubing company bend up some tubing which will match the seat profile. I'll post pics. Plus you'll have to figure out what to do with your oil bag. I have been wanting a different tail on my M2 for a long time but couldn't figure out where to put the oil tank-I then talked with Jodie(Joesbuell) and got started. The M2 and S1 aren't that much different, so if you can make provisions for your oil tank it should be very easy after that.

I'm kind of at a standstill right now with my bike. While my newest addition mostly sleeps, he has upset the whole dynamics of the house, and everyone but me is pissy!: ) Once I get the tail section hashed out I will probably get to work on a battery tray and what not but slow moving right now. Plus it's cold in my shop-I need a heater!

Geez Corey I wish it was a bit cooler here...Bloody Hot!
Spent most of the day working on the exhaust.
The front of the muffler did not turn out quite as I expected...hopefully the lower fairing will help there a bit with the looks. But I guess it will grow on me.

Look how skinny the bike is front on now...

I still have to remove the dent in the pipe plus some final welding and grinding...Oh the joy!

here's some pics.

Enjoy : )

Joe, I'm curious--how are you going to get that dent out of the pipe? Weld a little stud on it and pull it out with a slide hammer? Or just cut it out and replace it with a new section of pipe?

I've got a nice header with a couple of dents that I'd like to fix, but I don't know how to go about doing it.

Thanks--I like what you're doing with the bike!

the coming cold is good, I like the colder weather but I haven't built up my antifreeze yet. I got the rear axle all laid out and hopefully I can get it turned down here by weeks end and I should have the subframe done soon too.

You look to be in the final stages Jodie. Will be nice to ride again here within a month eh? As usual nice work, and I hope you enjoyed the bottles(although small) of whisky.

RT I used to work in a bike shop and our mechanic use to braze weld up the outlets, one outlet had an alloy wheel valve stem in it so you can pressurize the pipes. I can't remember how much pressure though, then you use a blow torch and heat the area of the dent until its cherry red, and hopefully the pressure in the the pipe brings the dent out.
I have'nt seen it done on road bike pipes, it was usually done on motorX bikes expansion chambers.
This can also be quite dangerous, as one of the pipes my boss was working on exploded!
If this fails I will just cut it out and weld in a new piece cut from the old headers : )

Thanks Corey I finished the second bottle last night. Here you are needing a heater and I need an aircon! It never snows here so I'm lucky there I can ride all year round...well If I had a drivers licence I could
I'm still trying to get an XB oil cooler, once I have that all of my fabrication will be done, then I can pull it apart so it can be powder coated and painted.
