Congrats on the new bike, that's a real beauty.

I hope your maintenance is nowhere near as troublesome as mine was.

NICE Bike!
I know where you can get an '05 Monster 1000ds for around 8500. On the west coast, about 1700 miles on the ODO, Remus pipes, and it's black...

That is a nice bike. I've was contemplating them along with the Buell before I actually bought the Buell. I'm not crazy about the stacked dual side exhaust, though.

I had an air cooled Ducati, it was a great bike. Blast to ride. The only thing that I disliked about it was the service and the dealership. Keeping it on the road was very expensive, with all the high cost maintenance. $1500 valve adjustments every 6k miles, What?. I've read recently in M/C that the cost has been decreased due to lower labor rates, and fewer parts that have to be maintained. This is an area Ducati needs to address quickly if they want to stay competitive in the USA.

Although I have to admit, to me, the Ducati L-twin is the finest sounding engine ever committed to a motorcycle.

Keep us posted, I'm curious to see what the maintenance costs are. If it's at all reasonable there could be another Duc in my future.

What I DO like about those exhausts is that they are not right underneath the seat like on my '03 749S. That, aside from it always breaking down, was my chief complaint.

When that bike ran, though, GOOD LORD did it ever RUN.

Thanks for all the .

I have a mechanic friend of mine who owns a 996 so the maintenance should be no issue. Over time I will learn to do it all myself.

This beast will flat out move. It came with a full Arrow exhaust so it sounds like a V8............really nice!!

Thanks again for all the good words.

"Nice, I have allways been a sucker for Italian bikes."

Speaking of which, I'd really like to see more of that Laverda SF. I was always a Laverda fan in the 70's... much more so than any other Italian bike.

Man, I don't get it. I don't have high maintenance costs on my 750SS. I race mine for Christ sake. I also don't have a Buell that breaks down. I must be lucky.

Dude, you got ripped a new one from that dealer.

The dealer I bought this one from will do the service for a little over $600, and that's for the four valve motor.

You are so right about the Ducati sound................it is very, very sweet!!

My insurance actually dropped from $444,on the Buell, to $271 a year for the Duc.

You gotta love Geico.

Awesome bike and would love to own the 999 monster. Just don't damage it in any way cause it'll cost you like a Buell never has. Cool bike good luck.

I didn't pay it, but that's what the going rate was.

I see now that Ducati has reduced their maintenance cost by 50%, so that explains the $600 adjustments.

If maintenance cost has really decreases as Ducati is claiming, there could be another dry clutch L-twin in my future.

I'll second the don't damage it comment. Replacement parts are very expensive.

Is that $271 a year full coverage? I find it hard to believe it would drop for the same coverage on a more expensive bike. If so, I have to look into Geico}

Yes, that $271 is for full coverage with a $500 deductible. The $444 for the Buell was also from Geico, with the same coverage. I believe Geico rates by engine size, hence the less cost for The Duc.

How is it different?

Well,

This thing will actually rev higher than 6500 rpm.

The reach to the bars is farther, so the riding position is a more aggressive.

It does not vibrate like the Buell, but does sound like a blender full of rocks - dry clutch noise.

The power comes on the same as the Buell, but it just has more of it.

That's about it.........for now.
