Background Info: I have a 2005 XB12Scg with about 5000 miles on it. It has a Drummer SS and the Race ECM. In August I started blowing headlight bulbs, 2 sets to be exact. I consulted my manual and ran a voltage regulator test. Turns out I had a bad VR. I bought one from Daves and put it in. When I tried to start the bike and I barely got anything from the starter. I guess riding the bike with 17 plus volts didn't do the battery any good. So I ordered one of those from Daves and once I put it in, the bike ran awesome! The next day I sprained my ankle, so I haven't ridden the bike for almost a month. On Saturday I went to ride it and I notice that the headlights are dead again. ARGHHHH I can't find the service manual, so I just hooked a volt meter to the battery while it was idling and I was getting about 12.7 volts. When I revved it up to 2500 I was up to 16+ volts. What the heck!!! I only have about 5 miles on the bike since I replaced the voltage regulator and battery! It seems like the VR is dead again! Any suggestions on what and where to look? What could be causing this. Help! |

There's a thread in the Big Bad & Dirty section where a Uly owner had VR trouble and found it was the connector. Apparently, there are little prongs that can get displaced or lose contact with their female counterparts. |
