All -- during the recent tear-down of my Y2K M2, the very groovy sound hear at trailing throttle at high revs proved to be just what I thought it was -- the internals of my Wileyco can have become disassociated from one another (my fault, never repacked the poor dear for 4 years) . . . so, what's available these days? I'm trying to keep the db level under control, but a simple recitation of what available would be of great assistance. thanks! Regulators, please note -- long time quick board abuser using the KV as intended . . . I get points! ;-} |

With some reinforcing welds I think the Supertrapp IDS is a good choice for tubers. Of course they discontinued that pipe years ago, but if you can get your hands on one used ... Number of disks used should let you dial in the db of choice. Alternately I'd imagine Kevin Drum could whip up something nice for you? Henrik |

Bmober: As an alternative, check out Comp Sales or Jegster for an old-fashioned Supertrapp in the appropriate length and ID. Get a tab welded on the back and you're ready to rock and roll... rt |

I just bought a V&H on ebay (very cheap I might add) for my M2. It has the distinction of being yet another after market that needs repacking. That being said - I LOVE IT! Not sure what you are looking for - but for whatever it is worth - I do love my V&H (and will go through the pain of repacking it when it is time). |

If your looking for a full system, I believe American Sport Bike has the D&D full race system as well as the factory race kit. |

awright awright awright -- I will readily admit that I tink and rite much better'n I tipe! (sheesh, tough room!) ;-} thanks for the input fellas -- as a guy that's gotten WAY too good at replacing exhaust studs (3 outs 4), the early V+H cans have me looking for a diamond grinding point in a pavlovian manner -- with the Y hanger and all, they may be OK . . . thought about D&D, but ruled it out for normal use (though twould be good fun at track daze and Bonneville, no doubt) . . . FMJ -- thanks for the links -- that factory race can looks good -- top end going slowly -- picked up a Chicom bike lift (my knees cheered) and am documenting the daylights outa the teardown -- sure wish I had digi cameras when I first started taking things apart, lo, these many years ago -- I likely would have gotten more things back together! rt -- i gotta give the home grown thing a lil more thought -- given that this particular tuber had an insatiable appitite for exhaust fasteners, I am a little trepidatious at the idea of a DIY anyting in the exhaust path . . . . . Henrik -- hadn't even considered give the drummer boy a shout . . . . . good idear! all -- thanks again ( |

I've seen the Supertrapp for sale as a new item on several websites (forgive me as I forget which ones.) One may have been Trojin Horse. They also listed two other tuber exhausts - european models that I'd never heard of... Nick |

My $.02 worth....I really like the SuperTrapp. The second version has been great on my S3T. Probably close to 30K miles with no problems. |

Is there a reason you can't just repack the WileyCo????? I've got a SuperTrapp sitting in the garage for the S2 if'n ya wants to take a few measurements. Also got the old original WileyCo with broke-off hanger tabs if you want to use it as a base to build up a home-built with (which is what I had in mind for it some day long into the future from now way beyond your entry into the 300mph club out at the pepper flats). Look into the Moreso swirly cans, don't know how well they work, but one many years ago sounded good on a friend's hotrod car. (We're talking decades ago, so the audible memory may have become modified over the years. |

Buell discontinued their version of the Supertrapp, but the Supertrapp branded one is still available. It is my favorite of the available tuber mufflers. It's nice to be able to tailor the sound level. I run an open end cap equipped Supertrapp on my S1W (with race header) but a closed cap with less discs on my S3. Mine have been very durable. The V&H is still available, as is the D&D in both a slip-on and Full system. If I was going for power, I'd probably put the D&D full system on, but it is a tad loud for my tastes. I've got a few new-n-box Wileyco's (old style flanged mufflers) that I'd let go for a low price. |

Mike -- I left the poor Wileyco un-re-packed for long enough that the internal baffle tube (izzat the right term?) is no longer connected to anything . . . . sounds really nice on overrun up near redline, but likely not a long-for-this-world muffling solution Al -- agreed -- D&D a bit noisesome for me -- mssg sent re: wileyco! |
