Alright, I'm getting ready to join the ever-growing group of lightning riders to fab on a tail section from the 'bolt. Just wondering if those of you out there who have already gone through this can give me a quick list of parts that I'll need (other than the obvious, i.e. seat, faring, subframe). Also, if there were any unforeseen problems you ran across that I may prepare myself for, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Joe |

Got a guy out here to do a swap with me (base) But, no, I'm still gonna do the conversion. |

What is the reason for the swap? What do you gain? the fierbolt would get a bigger seat but what would you gain on a lightning? |

Purely aesthetics. I just like the looks of the R tail better. |

I am thinking about doing it as well except I may want to do a complete swap. (S to R) I'm still thinking about it. Ken |

I put an S tail on my R. It is simpler to go this way, but the guy I swapped w/ didn't have any problems either. Make sure to swap the rear brake fluid resevior and hose but keep your rear wiring harness. When you put the R on the S, you will need to find places for your electronics. Do a search, there are at least a dozen threads on this topic. |

everything will fit under the rider's seat. use zip-ties and velcro to hold stuff in place. as for the brake reservoir, i used a small angle bracket with a self-tapping screw and attached it to the sub-frame. you will have to lengthen your tail/turn signal wires (mark them when disconnecting to make life easier). do a search we have discussed this. if you have any questions, let me know. |
