Hi Shaiss. I just joined the Forum but have been lurking for a while now. How big is your group in OC? I just started riding my Buell a few months ago. I originally had Japanese sportbikes before. I live in south OC and have seen some Buells but it's rare. I've seen a sprinkling of one or two in Ortega Highway on Sundays. I usually ride to Palomar Mountain and surrounding areas like Julian/Borrego Springs. Also, I occassionally do the Pines to Palms Highway. Finally, I have this big route stored in memory out to the fringes of L.A. County I ride to whenever there's a 3 day weekend or feel like doing a full 8-hour ride. Where does your group usually ride? Maybe we can organize a small group ride somewhere. |

Hi Rogue. At the moment we have 4 bikers in the group, two yamahas, a kawi, and my buell. Soon we'll have my wifes kawi, so that'll be 5. So were a small group, but hopefully spreading the word we'll grow. For now were using myspace because its convinient and easy. But we'll soon be moving my site, Ride4.org. What do you suggest? I posted a topinc for 10/28 http://groups.myspace.com/OCBuell Join are group, and lets start riding... (Message edited by shaiss on October 21, 2006) |

I saw your My Space posts for rides. Currently, I have to change out my Firebolt's front tire so the bike will be down tomorrow. Got a great idea from the board on how to lift the front safely and cheaply using a scissor jack! If I get the new tire mounted tomorrow, I probably will ride Sunday to scrub them in. Maybe just a quick run to Ortega Highway. Sundays work better for me though. Many times, I have commitments with the wife on Saturdays. Sometimes, I have to work Saturdays too. Next weekend, I have a planned ride on Sunday 10/29 with a few guys I've been riding with. They're not Buell people though, which is fine with me too. I may be able to join your ride on the 28th IF I don't have to work. I will keep an eye on it and will let you know if I can show up. I will know more as I get closer to Saturday (it is workload dependent). |

Thanks for the invite Shaiss but I'm down with the flu right now. LOL! One of these days, let's plan a ride through the canyons of Palomar Mtn & Borrego Springs. About 275 miles with lots of turns, sweepers, and wide open spaces. Some of those roads were made for our Buell XB's. |

Shaiss, I won't be able to make it on your ride this Saturday. Saturday's are really my day with my lovely wife and Sunday's for my bike. Unless she goes to her Mom's, I'm pretty much her chauffer for the day. That's the price I pay for her being a wonderful, & understanding wife. I think it's a great idea that you decided to get started at 7:30 AM instead of 10AM. Pretty much after 9AM, Ortega Highway is a circus of cars, trucks, SUV's, cops, and bikes--especially cruisers. They have this place about 2 miles from the Lookout Cafe called Hell's Kitchen. Yeah. That's the name. The place is a magnet for cruisers and you can imagine tons of cruiser bikes now go up there. Not that I have anything against cruisers but they are freakin' slow in the twisties! Individually, they're fine. But in a group, they are difficult to pass and some of their owners have delicate egos. BTW, this past Sunday, a guy on a H-D got killed by a drunk driver in Ortega. It happened around 11AM and that section of road was closed while they looked for the moron who was the driver of the Honda Accord that collided head-on with the poor H-D. The Accord went off the cliff and the drunk SOB driver ran off into the thicket, leaving his wife and kid inside the car. What a piece! So, be aware that there may be some heavier than normal CHP presence in Ortega this weekend. Especially with the weather being warm. When the CHP cracks down on Ortega, they do it in a big way. If you are up to it, lets put aside a Sunday and let's ride our Buells to the Palomar area. I don't just mean the Mountain that every Ricky-Racer goes to, but other semi-secret backroads there. It is way better than Ortega. Safer too. And no cops. Many of the roads however, are filled with decreasing radius turns. It is the perfect roads for our XB's. But it is more challenging than Ortega Highway will ever give you. (Message edited by rogue_biker on November 07, 2006) |
