i am going to rejet my carb this week and was advised to shim the needle .050. i was reading some old threads and see some people replaced the needle with a N65C needle. anyone know what would be better, shim or replace? thanks George |

The needle affects from just before 1/8 throttle to just after 1/2 throttle, shimming affects from just before 1/4 throttle to a little after 3/4 throttle, and needle taper from affects just after 1/4 throttle to WOT ... |

Shim, because when you change things, you can adjust your shimming as well. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

NYtrashman Did you rejet your carb? How did you like the mod? A noticeable diff? I am rejetting our Blast this weekend and am wondering if the washer shim is worth the extra work. Tim |

I'm noticing, as my Blast is warming up, that from slightly open to probably close to 1/2 throttle, I get a flat spot. It seems to fade as it warms up more. Does this sound like I should get that N65C needle? I've already rejetted and set the idle screw, but I just never got around to doing any more. |

First try shimming the needle and see if that helps. |

Shim the needle .050, it will help! |

The carb should be tuned with the engine warmed up. Tuning with it not fully warmed up, is not an accurate way to tune it. However, that does not mean that shimming the needle wont help or be accurate. |

It's been my experience that, when properly tuned, it will run better as it is warming up. So far, with the rejetting, it starts better cold, and doesn't backfire cold. I'm going to try the shims, as the flat spot doesn't go away completely when it's warm. |

Need to be sure. I have found a NOKK needle. When replacing the stock needle. do I just swap the needles or do I shim the NOKK needle .050" before installing? |

I shimmed mine...about .045" which was what I had washers for. Take the needle to a True Value and search for washers that fit...it took 3 washers for me |

Jadow, first would be to try the needle without shimming, then shim accordingly. |

If you use a FUEL/AIR Gauge you get a REAL WORLD correct adjustment !!! |

I just changed the jets in my carb then turned the carb over and removed the slide assembly parts, and am a little confused. 1. Does the needle "point" go down with the wider end upward? 2. Exactly where do the washers go - on the needle? Is so, seems like they will fall down to the tapered end if that end is at the bottom? 3. How the heck do you get the cover on with that dang spring? Thanks for any insight. Hil |
