SPOILER!!! I'm going to talk about the race results in the this post, so if you are wanting to watch it on a delayed broadcast later, please do not open this page or read this post. What a fantastic finale to a very unpredictable season. First, a heart felt congratulations from Rocket to Nicky Hayden. Despite my bullshit talk I always love to see an underdog winning. That was a heart warming result and I bet there aren't, or won't be later, many without a tear in their eye. Valentino threw it away, but his handshake for Nicky showed great respect and warmth and they are the marks of true champions. Magnanimous in defeat. But today has proved to be Nicky's day, and who'd have thought that. I can't help but feel this was meant to be Nicky's year, lol. I won't spoil myself by mentioning those bloody Ducati's either I'm stoked for Nicky. He deserves it as much as anyone else. Probably more so when Valentino made a big poo poo when it really mattered. One last mention. The BBC live coverage and the BBC Interactive post race was great. Congratulations Nicky Hayden - Moto GP World Champion 2006 Rocket |

Rocketman, It is refreshing to finally hear that you characterize your recent posts where you derided Nicky, as "bullshit". Oh, BTW, I guess you hadn't been paying much attention this season, but Nicky was not the underdog this season...he was the leader until the last race. I would go so far as to say that a few of us yanks who called you on your earlier comments must seem pretty freakin' smart today. I am feeling particularly bright this fine morning. I hope you will take this opportunity to learn that you can never "misunderestimate" a boy from Kentucky, where it is common to see your 14 year old sister openly smoking at the dinner table...in front of her two kids. jimidan |

Funny , Jimidan , funny....You'd be amazed at all the great things that come from Kentucky....and surrounding States! But of course , you were only kidding!............I too ,was crossing my fingers XLdevil as was the entire Hayden Family and friends and the announcers....Nicky Rode a SMART race.....and you gotta give it to those announcers. They were hoping for Nicky's win also....too Cool!!And Dani redeemed himself and we all know Rossi's a class act....can't wait till next year!I believe the size of these Rookies(Dani is 50 lbs. lighter than Nicky)will play into their favor!Go Nicky,Kenny,John and Colin!!! |

Jim lad, all I conceded was Pedrosa wasn't as far down the inside of Hayden as I first thought. I changed my mind when just before yesterdays race I saw the incident again on my fabulous Loewe TV. Previously I'd been confined to poor replays and freeze frames from Yo-tube. As for 'bullshit', that's just my way of generalizing the whole of my conversations regarding the lead up to yesterdays title decider. I wasn't actually admitting my general banter on such matters was in fact bullshit, because it wasn't. As for Hayden, I hadn't much been impressed with his efforts to not take the 'bull by the horns' since his win at Laguna. I think I pretty much covered my change of opinion with my yesterdays posts though. The reason for that was simple. Hayden rode like a true f**king champion right from the get go yesterday. Something I'd like to have seen him do consistently, not seemingly sporadicly. Between Laguna and Portugal it was a different story from Hayden. One of consolidating points and places and not racing the wheels off his Honda to win a race and a title. I said weeks ago I saw Hayden as a great and very fast rider. Just not a champion in the making. Yesterday he proved me wrong - which is something your miserable argumentative arse will never do where I'm concerned. But thanks for trying. GO NICKY Rocket |

Hayden rode the season like a champion. Hard when he needed, conservative when it was the right thing to do. Nobody likes to be first looser, but the champions understand the difference between a battle and a war. Let's recognize Dani and ALL of HRC for supporting Nicky. Rossi is a champion and sportsman. This has been a great season and it's good to see another sportsman finally take away Rossi's domination. Let's also recognize the BEATING that KRJr gave to his old, spendthrift team... Suzuki. To think that a private team (KR) could spank Factory teams at the highest echolon of motorsports is worthy of the highest praise -- especially when KR only had ONE bike!!! This season will go down as one of the most memorable for its highs (Laguna) and lows (Estoril) with the best riders the series has had in a looooong time. |

Yes indeed. Well said, and thanks for mentioning the Team Roberts attack. 6th overall I believe? And Jimi, I'm just funning with ya. No offense implied. It's been a great season and I feel the need to get the season review on DVD. I vote we talk about this until next March. Rocket |
