OK, just took the stock bars off the Uly (worst part is removing the left grip which the factory cemented the hell out of) and ready to install new Renthal low rise aluminum bars (search for thread that Al Lighton put together last year). Big question now - do I dremel off the switch gear cluster locating pins (which keeps them from turning on the bars) or drill holes in the bars to still be able to use the pins? Help! Thanks, - Scott |

I have not done this on a buell, but on the other bikes I have done, ALWAYS drill so the controls stay where you put them. |

Thanks, I think you're right. The last time I replaced bars was on my '74 Honda CB550K, ground down the pins and had the clusters spin around. But not knowing if they still tended to do the same, I posted the message. Thanks for your quick response! - Scott |

Having done both on different bikes, I go along with drilling, as well. |

I put the low Renthals on last year. You're right about the left grip. I drilled mine. |

Wow, what a difference! Obviously not as much leverage, but still very much in control and they wrap your bod around the "tank" nicely. Combined with the dark ZG screen, removed hand guards, removed triple tail and bar end mirrors, and it's starting to look lean and mean!

Those look pretty cool, Motogeek. How does the bend compare with, say, the Lightning bars? I put BMW S and /7 bars on both my '75 550K and '76 750F waay back then. I knocked the locating pins out in case I wanted to replace the Honda bars, they press right out. I don't remember a rotation problem but then I also shimmed the controls to the BMW bars and ran the wiring externally wire tied so maybe that helped. I ordered a CityX bar back when I bought the Uly in case I wanted to go lower, but I'm pretty happy with the stocker so far. |

I must be a freak compared to you guys. I want to go higher on my bars, and just a little more to the back. Looks like I will be looking at ATV bars. Wonder how far the cables will reach till ya gotta buy new ones? |

I with treadmarks, up and back so stand up is easier for off/back road. Guess it all depends on what you want the bike to do. I like the more up-right position. Easier on old folks or bad backs. |

The bend is a bit more inswept than the stockers, so I'm going to experiment with the angle. I can't imagine going any higher than the stockers, without going ape-hangers! But to each their own. Ride safe. |

I put MX bars on my City-X. Three inches higher one and a half back and three inches wider. Moved clutch cable outside of housing and the wires made it tightly during fit-up, but were fine when on. Bars were for a Yam four wheeler. Once I located the bars and test fitted controls I drilled locater holes, it worked great for the "old" and "back" issues. |
