I think he meant drivetrain slop. When I got of my XB9SX and took a ride on a Vstrom, the drivetrain slop was driving me nuts. |

ok boys i know my total cost is in between $300 & $400 but a big chunk of that is the sprung belt tensioner i bought. i pressed out the bearing from my stock tensioner and pressed it into a sprocket with the same diameter hole. this allowed me to use the same stock spacers and bearing wich is good because the stock bearing I.D. is very strange and i couldn't match it. then i ran a drill through the back of the tensioner and installed some stainless threaded rod and a couple of nuts and nylocks, whamo an adjustable tensioner with an actual pivot. my only problem is sourcing a "half-link" for an RK X-Ring 530 chain. can anyone help??? everyone i ask seems to say "whats a half-link?". i really don't think i'm that old.? if i can't source the half-link i will just have to order a 51 tooth rear from Vortex, the drop from 52 to 51 should fix my problem. of course this will also increase my cost, but i am considering it research.when i'm done with my 9r i will figure out the total cost of all parts actually used, the cost of all the shipping on parts actually used, the total time invested in installing these parts(not including failed ideas) and finally the part #'s and names of the suppliers. i only hesitate offering this info because my project isn't complete and i would hate to pass on any mis-information to you boys. so if you can wait a little while i will have done all the research and prototyping for you and it will be cheap and easy for you to convert to chain. |

So saintly: Are those numbers up there still good for the Chain COnversion. I have been thinking about it, and wanted to know if it would be beneficial for me to do it. Thanks! |

Front sprocket(21 teeth); V-twin # 19-0384 / $13.97 Rear sprocket (51 teeth); Vortex (Odessa Fl.) # 827-51 / $63.95 + 6.95 shipping 530 diamond chain; V-twin # 19-0326 / $37.49 Idler pulley; Gates # 38023 / $16.78 (AND its available in ANY autozone in USA!) Total cost: $139.14 (YES it IS less than the cost of ONE belt!!!!) DM, the price on the sprocket is still $13.97 The chain costs $38.50 for diamond standard. A call to your local autozone should get you a current price on the idler pulley. And a call to Vortex in FL should get you their current sprocket price. I doubt much has gone up since this past summer. BTW: I now have nearly SIX THOUSAND miles on the chain conversion! I've adjusted it a total of 5 times! Best thing I ever did to my Buell. |

after two broken belts in 8500 miles on my X1, it would seem stupid to not convert to chain, before doing something stupid out of town, and end up stranding myself someplace where finding a belt would prove difficult at best. but some of these kit prices r just unreal, thus being the only drawback. |

Fullpower, could you go over how you managed to deal with the chain tensioning issue? A pic of what you did/how you did it would be great. If you feel that this may be a redundant question, I would understand. I am new (semi) to the bad web and am looking to convert my xb9r to chain and was told to look in this section, so i did. I have got a handle on just about everything except how you adjust the chain. So far, your's sounds really simple. I am just having a hard time visualizing it in my head. But, I can tell you that, this winter, this is happening. Thanks for the info, in advance. Mark |

You might talk to your fellow UK Bueller, Matt, at Trojan-Horse or contact the folks at American Sport Bike, both help keep this place up and running. |
