Well with winter closing in, I think I will be putting away the Uly (stop giggling you west coast guys!) I will take advantage of the down time to farkle a bit.... I was quoted 190.00 for the 07 stock seat, I seem to have read it was more around 100.00, has any body actually bought one and installed it on their 06? I would like to pick up a tank bag and a shop manuel as well. I also seem to have read there is a certain Dave on this board who could set me up. After that, I have just read good things about the special OPS pipe, have to get in touch with Odie! | ||

I have. Not sure where that 190.00 came from but the retail price is 110.00 for black and 119.00 for orange. Not sure how that tranlates into Canadien dollars. Dave is selling them for 10% off that. I did buy mine locally. Just have put it on. Definitely lower and a different feel. Going to put some big time miles on my bike this weekend. I will see then. The almighty decided that too much of a good thing is bad (ie; Food, Merlot, Sex , and riding a motorsicle) so he created winter. This allows us to ease off on no. 4 and catch up on the first three! Thanks for the info, I will call Daves! The 190.00 came from a certain e-bay HD store. Gtmg, I am looking forward to your comments, a 6'-0" with a 32" inseam I am hoping to almost flat-foot. I assume you had no hassle getting it to fit? Too bad there isn't a relatively easy way to drop the whole bike 1", the seat is perfect and the distance to the pegs is perfect as well.... | ||

The seat drops right on... in most cases. It actually fits better than my 06 as there was a nasty gap between the seat and frame.I was going to suggest you investing in a Gerbing heated jacket and gloves but living in Canada you might be better off with studs in your tires. The heated jacket and gloves work great on the Uly..check out www.Derbycycle.com | ||

It's not all bad, I can walk from my house to a chairlift for some excellent skiing and outback snowshoeing with a GPS can be as challenging as driving on a public road with cars.  I think when my JR comet gives up the ghost I will go with a Darien with the heated liner. Last week I had to plug in my Uly to make sure it would start..... | ||

Rode to work in the low 2o's F today. Thankful for my electric vest and grips. The FXRG jacket and Darien pants by Aerostich are Awesome too. The fog free face shield on my Scoripian EXO 700 is the best I've ever had. The determining factor is snow and ice for me. Don't like riding in either. So far so good. I'll milk out the commuting season as long as the Good Lord allows. The riding season never ends. I can always sneak out for a quick ride when the roads clear. I sure love this Uly. Tim | ||

I've ridden to 0* similarly equipped, with a snowmobile suit. It's about as much fun as hunting elk 4th season. Meaning, it has its high points if you are prepared and ratchet down your expectations! I get the funniest looks. Either that snowmobile suit is the height of fashion or they are considering me for involuntary committal. | ||

We had a low of 39 and high of maybe 48. I spent the morning moving firewood into the "ready issue ammo rack" in the garage. Have 1-1/2 cords up and ready to go, we're ready! Then I took a 60 mile ride around Mount Desert Island. Had Cadillac Mountain almost to myself. That is still one of the best rides in the area. Uniform was flannel lined Carhart jeans, Aerostich Darien jacket with Kanetsu full sleeve liner (electrics not plugged in), and Goretex/Thinsulate lined goves. And a couple of layers of wrapping/windstopping around the neck of course. Had a wonderful ride, arrived back home just as my hands were starting to get a little cool. I'll get the electric grips on this winter. Jack | ||

Heavy snow yesterday, followed by a major melt. 56 today, and 68 tomorrow. Lows in the high 30s. Gotta love Colorado! Of course, the canyons are as yet unrideable. But I'll take it as it comes. | ||

One of our favorite rides is across the 26 thru dixville notch to Bar Harbour, really cool biker guy has a little B&B right downtown (gotta remember the name!), great place to stay! Then back thru Stratton on the 27 slaloming around the moose! | ||

BTH JackbequicK, how are you liking you Darien / Kanetsu elec. vest set-up? Is just a t-shirt or thin long sleeve good enough under all that around freezing temps, or should I plan another insulating layer. Do you find the shoulders / upper sleeves pick-up alot of air and push you around or are they not bad. This is my main complaint with the Joe Rocket Comet jacket, the oversize shoulders and big upper sleeves really pick up the wind! | ||

Mason, Your ride is duly noted for next season. I had a long sleeved cotton tee shirt on under the jacket. And did not feel any coolness at all on my arms or torso. That same combo, with another sweatshirt on my body and long johns under the trousers, kept my torso and arms okay for 30 minutes in 25-30F weather this spring. At 30 minutes in 25-30F my hands and legs were losing feeling, my legs were going next, and I called it off. I think the Aerostich/Kanetsu with the electrics on will be good for anything I'd ever ride in. I have not had the electrics on yet. I have the long sleeved or jacket style Kanetsu, not the vest. The jack has good cuffs and and gets you well sealed right down the wrist with the zippers and Velcro adjusters. I thought the Kanetsu jacket was a little strange when I got it because it has the polar fleece layer out and the the smooth or satin towards you skin. But that works great and makes it easier to get on and off. My Aerostich is a comfortable fit with the liner in, not loose at all, and a little looser with the liner out of course. But I've never had any issues with the Aerostich sleeves or shoulders being too loose or pulling or flapping. I think that is because of the heavy material, the layers, and the built in crash pads (I have all the pads). I wear the Aerostich year around, in the warmest days up here in Maine I want to get it off as soon as I stop. Once rolling the vents on the arms and back provide plenty of cooling. I think in temps in the 90's I would be perspiring under it around town. If you are of a ATGATT mentality, I don't think there is anything that gives you that "I'm ready to ride" feeling that an Aerostich does. Jack | ||

I had a roadcrafter jacket before my JR and I have to agree, nothing seems to beat a "stich! I never got really cold or wet in that jacket and pit zips with a water soaked t-shirt is as good as any mesh jacket in warmer weather, (plus the jacket won't melt into your skin if you wipe!) I sold it because I was too cheap at the time to do the alterations to make it work on a sports bike. However the Darien seems perfect for the position on the Uly. Thanks for the info! | ||

I'm surprised how well the frame pucks deflect wind/cold. The knee pads of my Darien pants are partially in the breeze,but for an unlined pant, I can still get by with wearing just my work Khakis underneath (its a pain wearing long johns to work and having to change when I get there). I thought I had pretty good protection on my FLHT with the elephant ear snap on lowers, but the riding postion on the Uly is much warmer (so far). I have a motorcycle only parking spot at work (actually 4 bikes can fit on the concrete slab)but they take the signs down as soon as I stop my commute for the winter. I hate to see a cage get that spot before the middle of November so I gotta keep riding. People ask me what I'm trying to prove, but really I just like pushing it and trying to keep the smile on my face a little longer. Tim |
