I've read so many threads about how to wheelie etc... This is for those out there that think that it's nearly impossible. This just illustrates how hard it really is.

Effortless! (Anybody know who this is?)

You'd be lucky to see an XB12 run an 11 second pass bone stock.

Yep, that is all it takes. He looked nice and steady in the wheely. I'm an organ donor too.

"You'd be lucky to see an XB12 run an 11 second pass bone stock."

True enough, but where the heck did that come from? LOL I learned first hand how much serious skill is required to get peak drag race performance out of a short wheelbase sport bike. It sure is fun trying though.

Daves - Me too. He made it look effortless. I wish he had some protective gear on though. I was trying to tell if he fanned the clutch or just bounced it.

True, but I think that comment was meant for this thread:

I'd say he definitely feathered the clutch. I so wish I could do that!

(Actually I don't think there is anything left to do for me to do that, but to do it. My own fear and self-preservation holds me back.) Experience: The school that goes too slow. (DLR)

I considered putting DONOR on my plate, but decided against it. My wife got me a XB12X to go with my XB9S the first part of August. What to put on the plate... In a rush, I arrived at CRIKEY! (As in other's exclamations when they see this big Orange bike go by. -"Crikey! What was that?" What timing huh? My plate arrived about a week after...

Just to answer that question... a bone stock XB12 won't do a 11 second pass bone stock??? If you strap it front and rear it will. I was out at the strip about 2 months ago during a HD shootout and saw this,as did a couple other Badwebbers. Best I seen the guy run was a 11.60's. I was surprised considering the guy was 200 lbs. and some change.

Strap it to what?

Something faster?

Seriously though, I don't know what you mean. Like a wheelie bar or something?

DJ - I have the same problem & I'm 57! I just can't help myself. It must be a mental disorder..... I can't seem to get on the Buell without wheelieing it every chance I get. Today at lunch I was on my YZ250F doing 100 yard wheelies across the field behind my business. I think I need to see a shrink.

The wheelies are probably keeping us sane. Researchers say that as we get older, we should do tasks that require mental agility and hand-eye coordination to keep our minds sharp. A 100 yard wheelie a day might be just what the doctor ordered.

The Yamaha is my "exercise bike". I try to ride it every day for 20-30 minutes at lunch when it isn't raining. I'm fortunate to have a lot of open space behind my business.

You strap the forks down to hunker the bike down.
Make it sit lower, you can launch the bike harder without the front coming up as easily.

everyone talking about that guy in the video doing that stand up, its me. yea i know i wasnt wearing my gear but when its over 100 degrees and humid, i guess u just take your chances. by the way its a 05 12r ,all i have done to it is the race filter and the buell race exhaust. i find its effortless to pull it up at 65-70 in third gear around 3 and a half to 4 grand.you do kind of have to feather it just a bit but not much, the bike will do the rest. believe it or not the bike is actually capable of pulling up on a stand up wheelie at 80 mph in fourth gear, but u have to use one foot on the rear peg.i have only been able to get it up about 5 times like that,so everyone who has trouble getting them to come up, u just have to know where your power is in each gear.

Chad, I don't think you're crazy at all. I ride in shorts all the time, and I'd ditch the helmet nine times out of ten if I could.

I also make a point of keeping the front wheel within two inches of the ground because I also don't like frame pucks, axle sliders, broken parts, dents, etc.

Wheelies just aren't for everyone. I wheelie the hell out of a dirt bike and I enjoy watching others stunt their street bikes but thats where I personally draw the line.

Wear what you want, don't let the ATTGATT crusaders get to ya!

BTW, nice wheelie.

definatly sick vid duff... i wish this yr i took more better video's. i have a few on my myspace, ill add you to my friends and u can go in and check em out. Buells are way too fun to weelie. Im guessing your on a 12s. Mines a 9 and it weelies really nice. 3rd around 55-60 is a lil tough, hard bounce foot on rear with a good smack of clutch gets it up tho. Had a few incodents this yr but hey its all learning, if uve never falln than uve never pushed urself hard enough thats what alot of my stunt riders say.

It's all fun until someone gets seriously hurt. Stunting on a public road with oncoming traffic is just plain moronic.

it's not as good as leather, but it can still carry armor and save you from needing
skin grafts and worse!

Oh yeah, you do have impressive skills, You make it look very easy ;)

Very cool.

I don't think anyone is saying these bikes won't wheelie. What I am saying, like in the video, a clutch, rev, stand up and yank is what it takes and to me, that's not an "easy" wheelie.

The only way I hit a stand up wheelie without yanking on the handle bars so far is in first gear and wacking it at 3500 RPMs.

I know I am far from a good candidate in the wheelie department, but the argument to me is how hard to you have to work to get a wheelie.

I am willing to bet that alot of you guys who can easily wheelie are alot lighter than me too.

Shea:u say that your arguement is how hard u have to work to get it to wheelie? i have to disagree with u on that.u mention the clutch, rev stand up, and yank, well if your gonna do a stand up wheelie, your gonna have to stand up and then pull it up, and the clutching part is just a slight feathering of the clutch to give it a slight jump. there is no yanking of the handlebars in that video, that is not needed. all im doing is preloading the front forks and using the rebound along with a slight bit of clutch, and the bike will come up with no problem, if u have to jerk on the handle bars then u might be doing something wrong.i understand how easy it is just to roll on the throttle in 1st and 2nd to get it to wheelie but when your in 3rd at 65 -70 mph, you will have to put a slight bit of effort into it. i know everyone keeps talking about the whole jacket issue, and i agree with everyone. i have my share of joe rocket leather and nylon jackets , and not everyone wants to be geared up with that on hot days where its 100 degrees and humid outside, its just a chance u take. if anything would happen on a wheelie at that speed, i would have to say road rash would be the least of my concerns.

Sorry, my terminology is not correct. When I said standing up wheelie, I meant standing the front wheel up, not standing up myself.
