I am getting ready to paint my bike here in a couple weeks.the problem is that i dont know what i want to do with it.I am repainting it the factory red color and adding candy red over top of it.But i dont want the bike to look so plain,so i need to figure out something else to paint on it.the bike is a 1998 s3t with the hard bags.so let the ideas begin |

I'm gettin ready to do the same thing in a month or so. I plan on painting my M2 to personalize it a bit more than just bolt ons. I plan on a Flat Silver with a Dark Red, almost Maroon, Celtic band down the center. I draw them for fun and want to make one specifically for the Buell. I just have to find an air brusher to do the shading and fine line work required. I can do it on paper but I'm no painter. Thats my 2 cents, good luck with your design, think of the things you like and try to incorporate them into a theme. |

If/when time comes to painting my bike, I think a painted Buell on the tank rather than stickers would be a nice touch. Outside of that, I'm not exactly what you'd call creative (actually had to go get a beverage while I tried to remember what that word was....). (Message edited by easy_rider on October 19, 2006) |

I think a painted Buell on the tank rather than stickers would be a nice touch. You mean like this?
What the pic won't show is as you walk around and view from different angles, the font ghosts away making it look like a complete black tank. Rocket |

As for the paint, I too wanted a subtle approach. No offense to anyone, but flames and skulls are a tad common place these days so I wanted something different. I decided on keeping the Buell black, but not just any black. This black contains black holographic rainbow flake and a silver holographic flake. I'm not the painter so don't expect too much tech talk, lol. I know the finishing coat is a black tinted lacquer, which gives the ghost effect. As in the above tank pic, it looks like a nice shinny black Buell, but when the sun comes out.......................
Please excuse the image. It is very difficult to capture the flake effect on camera. Trust me, it looks fantastic. And subtle! Rocket |

very nice rocket.kinda funny though because i had thought about ghosting in "buell" all over the bike in different sizes all over the bike.and making some softer than others. Also thought about putting one small buell emblem with"powered by one pissed off harley motor"under it and ghosting it very lightly so you had to be really looking to see it. |

Screamer, I like the ghost Buell fonts idea. Not so sure about the Harley comment though, lol. There's a custom Fat Boy lives somewhere near me, with lots of skulls that ghost in the paint. It's a fantastic job, whoever did it. You have to really look close to see these skulls. There's about twenty of them all over, including under the seat, and no two are the same. All done by hand. I was looking last night at some pic's and this one has captured somewhat the ghost effect on the Buell logo.
Enjoy, and check out this thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/210038.html#POST687746 and perhaps seek out BadWeBer Josh Cox. Rocket |

Thanks for the info rocket but i think i am going to go a different direction.I want to do something totally different.i am just not sure exactly what that is yet.plus i hate the factory red color, but my wife loves it so......she won. However i should be able to change the color to something i like by applying the candy over top of it.the part i am having a hard time with is figuring what colors to use in the artwork and what artwork to use without the bike looking to busy and not being to plain. |

Thank you very very much Bruce. It means a lot, especially coming from you Screamer, one of the toughest things my head has done all year outside of family life and living (the important stuff) is work out a paint job for the Buell. I was all for the idea of changing the Buell logo, keeping the font of course, to ROCKET. I had the crazy notion in my head that I (re)built this Buell and not Erik, lol. Then I thought ROCKET was too in your face so to speak, and I came back down to Earth and settled for, keep it real. I never wanted anything but a black Buell, and toyed with the idea of black flames on black but I kept coming back to custom 1970's Boyd Coddington illusions and had to have flake. I took a look at the flakes in a tub and thought what the heck is that gonna look like on. In the end my painter mate moaned enough it became 'you'll get what I give you' and we both loved it. My one and only golden rule that we stayed true to was black and subtle. I want to do more but Steve is in the process of starting up a new paint shop right now, so he's busy, and I'm all out of favours. I would love to take the carbon fiber pieces and have them covered with a black tinted clear lacquer. Maybe put some flake in some of those parts too. I envy those wizards who can just knock this stuff out. Those Queensryche, or whatever they call them, crash helmets are amazing. Even if you don't like the designs, it must be incredibly hard to come up with them, then get them down in paint. Good luck. Keep us up to speed. Rocket |

Here's a close up of my RS/S2T's tank logo. It's painted on and silverleafed. Base paint is a candy burgundy with a metallic base. AL

Thanks Left, got a close up of that weird effect? Candy looks nice. Notice the difference in Buell fonts between our two. The 'B' and the 'e' in my font are square, unlike Left's which are rounded. Nothing was ever straight forward on a Buell. Including font hunting, lol. Rocket |
