Glad to see that the 'Ride to the Races' (Sept 18) got some coverage in the Fuell mag, but disappointed that it didnt show more bikes or how many racers were actually out there, Blasts included. Sure its nice to read about the new 'RR' and whose winning what, but (my opinion) it'd do Buell some good to show more of the private efforts that are going on out there by guys who may never win, but just enjoy racing (and not just on high priced racebikes). I meet a lot of people who are completely clueless about racing and think that it can only be done on a superfast 1000+cc Jap 4cyl. Many got surprised at the last track day getting passed by what was certainly the least powerful bike out there (yes, a Blast). I tried contacting Fuell about their impeding coverage of the event, but never got anywhere beyond "I'll pass that along". Erik commented about getting more people on bikes, but I think Fuell & Buell are missing an audience they need to reach. ( and after visiting at least a half dozen Buell 'dealers' in the last 3 weeks, most dont seem to care). I'm off my soapbox now just disappointed in the Buell representation on my trip. Again, just my opinion! |

the bad news: we can't make the BBQ. the good news: this frees up a motel room for Saturday night. we've got a (non-smoking) room reserved at the Motel 6 for Saturday only, with (we think) two beds. if you need the room, drop a PM and we'll figure out how to switch it over into your name. FB&D |

Good news on the ride to Buellton plans... From the http://fire.countyofventura.org/ site: "Favorable weather conditions over the weekend enabled firefighters to make considerable progress on the 163 mile perimeter of the fire. Even though the fire stands at 95 percent *containment, large fuels within the fire will continue to burn, smoke and keep the fire danger high.....Evacuation notices have been cancelled, evacuation centers have closed, schools returned to normal schedules and roads have reopened as residents return to their homes." So unless something changes, the northern route that is planned to get to Buellton should be open. Al |

Is anybody from Long Beach or South Bay going to the meeting tonight? I have a church group that is meeting Wednesday's for the next few weeks and won't make it. Al and Joanne have saddlebags and a turn signal flasher they can bring up, if someone from the area can pick it up at the Knowlwoods meeting and take it home, I could arrange to pick it up from you Thursday or Friday or over the weekend. (Jack and Cindy can't make it either.) Many thanks, Andrew |

I'm in Orange County (Orange) so if anybody else has an alternate plan or lives close to me and wants to ride up, let me know. If I dont meet up, I'll see you all Saturday afternoon! |

For the southern Buellton destination riders and anyone else coming across Hwy. 166, here is a route recon report. Tepusquet Road is in great condition - Foxen Canyon is in repair in one minor section but is still a real fun road - Ballard Canyon Road is the same dirty/narrow/rutty pass it has always been with locals that surprise you mid corner, so think extra safety on this final leg of your journey. The whole leg is aprox. 50 miles so have enough gas. Any questions call my cell 805-268-6875 See ya all Friday night! Brett |

One more day till the masses invade the Central Coast of California, home to the area that the movie Sideways was filled in, former home to Michael Jackson ( I think, I haven't seen or heard about him in a while ). So come on down and pull up a chair in the town of Buellton California for the American Sport Bike Bar-B-Que event. If I can get you (me) liquored up enough at the Firestone Brewery I'll tell you all the fascinating (boring to the point of suicide) stories of the area. We even have the Chumash Indian Casino a few miles down the road for those who wish to pay for their trips. Yaahoo!! Be there! Brett |

Well, I'm truly sorry that everyone couldn't make it - you "Fairweather Bikers" really missed a great weekend. The BadWeather Bikers who were there know what I mean! I really enjoyed putting names to faces - YOU ALL ROCK! Some weather related issues put a damper on some rides, but as Sparky mentioned elsewhere, the positive attitudes at Buellton prevailed. I really have to thank a few key people for their above and beyond efforts: Ebear - you're the best! have I ever told you that? Really appreciate the 5x7 photos put in the awards for the show, and all the co-ordination efforts! Laurie - thanks so much for all your set up work and companionship - its great to have a friend like you to rely on! Ride leaders Marck and Brett - appreciate you showing the group your BUELL-TIFUL area. Heard many comments about it from the riders. Matt, Brian, and all the others who helped out when other really riders needed it... You guys epitomize the attitude that I love about this group. Thank you for taking the extra steps to help your fellow riders. We just got in, and we're a bit tired, so all for now... |

Preparations are made....
Stuff is stashed....
Must mean they have restrooms??? ...Frazier Park....
Got to the top of the hill and found a HAIL Storm!!!...I know were the Badweatherbikers but come on!!!
As we crested a steep hill , deeper hail , a crashed BMW and that horrible sound of sliding cycle behind me... The rider was up and for the most part OK...
And this was the path we now had ahead of us.....first , miles of pea sized ball bearing hail and now....90 miles of rain!!!!...BADWEATHER my Ass!!!..Now the FUN starts!!! |

Joanne, Al and Zack...thanks for a great weekend! The BBQ tri-tip was awesome! The walking distance hotel location to the Beer place was a great idea! As always, Buell people always make any meeting fun. It was great seeing those from NoCal that ventured down, and seeing Brett who ventured what, 12 miles? And for those who missed the MotoGP race on Sunday morning, that too was very memorable! Even more so seeing it with friends. Scott |

Next time - remember the Glendale mob is at Willow Springs International Raceway the 3rd Sunday of every month - not the 3rd weekend. Could have had another 6-10 people riding with all you guys! This month with the 1st being Sunday, meant that the SECOND weekend was a race weekend! Sorry to have missed it, would have been a great ride after reading some of the posts! Had a good weekend racing and David Ortiz got his new racer license after schooling this weekend! We now have a BIG mob of Buell racers at Willow Springs - next month, you guys ought to come out. Food is FREE on Sunday - we pay for burgers out of our recycling bin every month. Come on out! (Message edited by slaughter on October 16, 2006) |

Al and Joanne have always been my heroes but they have taken it to a new level. Thanks for such a great weekend! It was a weekend of adventure, exhilaration, gorging, and drinking with really great people. Buells REALLY do attract a type of person who is unique and different in every sense. Steve: I believe Al and Joanne DID try to accommodate the Glendale mob and changed the American Sport Bike BBQ to this past weekend at Glendale's request. When the booboo was found, it was too late to change the date. No biggy, but we did miss you guys. (We ate all your share of the food). We'll catch you next year. Danny: glad to hear its only a torn ligament. It was great riding with a tough hombre like yourself. Joanne has already referenced the "FairWeatherBikers" contingent. Buells are called "Lightnings", "Thunderbolts", "Cyclones", not "Gentle Breeze", "Sunshine", or "Dewy Mornings". Sheesh. You guys missed out big time and a fitting punishment is that you'll have to buy the beer next time after the days ride is finished. (Message edited by reindog on October 16, 2006) |

Danny - glad you got it looked at; is it a "heal by itself" kind of thing or "we gotta reconnect something" kind of thing? You are one tough guy, that's for sure! By the way, did you realize that you won People's Choice for Best S-3? Everyone there could see past the battle scars and mud - this wasn't a show for shop queens, it was for well-ridden and thoroughly enjoyed bikes! Slaughter - we really did try to accomodate the race schedule. Next year, we're thinking one or two weekends earlier might be better (less chance of rain, cold), but whenever it is, we will MAKE SURE it doesn't interfere with your race schedule. We missed seeing you Glendale folks! Next one's November 19th at Willow Springs International Raceway, right? Scott, Tom, Danny, Sparky and Jen, Andrew and Shelly, Jack and Cindy, Fireman Jim, Terry, Wayne, Sean, Brett, Erik, Matt, and EVERYONE who made it - thanks for braving the weather and distances... As I looked out at the crowd gathered for the raffle, I couldn't help thinking to myself that THIS GROUP ROCKS!!! The comraderie is genuine; I don't think anyone could walk away from the event without warm fuzzies. Even when adversity showed it's ugly face to some of us, the others were there to help. Tom, your references to alternate bike names for FairweatherBikers are great It was a shame all couldn't make it; I know the weather thwarted some. You gotta make your own decisions on that kind of thing, and I'm not about to put pressure on anyone to ride beyond their safety zone! Guess that won't stop me from rubbing in the fact that you guys really missed a fun event. Lets see... Some of the twistiest, most exhilarating roads that lead into a succulent tri-tip barbeque at a beautiful oak tree park, lots of really cool prizes, surrounded by some of the finest people I know... I'm just bummed that its over... |

Al and Joanne, that had to be the most awesome weekend of riding and camaraderie that I have had in a long time. I can not express my thanks in letting me be just a part of it. To old friends and new ones, it was great meeting all of you. Apologies to Eric for not allowing him to take more ride pictures. Sorry, I was having too much fun staying ahead of Wayne, when he would let me. And just to set the record straight Scott, I had to come a whole 30 not 12 miles. You know how much that killed me not being able to drink more than one or two small beers because I still had to ride home! Next time even I'll get a nearby room. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all!!!! |

Joanne, We're so glad that American Sport Bike is out there for the Buellers and others. Next race is 19th (Sunday) Might be my first time in the racing saddle since wadding it up so badly a year and a half ago when I had to ride the wheelchair for a long time. Of course, we missed seeing all our friends but it looks like EVERYBODY in both groups still had a great weekend so it all worked out well, eh? See you, Al and the others soon. Ride well all. |

No apologies needed Brett!...It was a pleasure to ride with you and catching up to you to ask to shoot some corners was a hoot anyways...Man can YOU guys ride!!!I'll be posting those tonight ,with some that American Sport Bike Al took that are GREAT!!!These events where we get to hang out with fellow Buellers from afar are some of the best times of my life. They stick in your head for a long time and give me pause during the day to smile and remember what we gain in our like interests.Wayne, though this is the first time meeting ,you definitly make everything more fun(and rowdy!)and a nice bike too!(badass did you say?)The Sespe wilderness that Al and Tom and I rode through without pause will be visited this weekend, camera in hand.....(and maybe dirt bike too). The Aspen and Maple were turning now and the colors were glorious!!Can't wait for the next big ride....whats on the Agenda AL????? |
