The original firebolt tail offers more room for moving around. It's slightly less aerodynamic than the stock "RR" tail. Both McWilliams and Crevier were going to use the stock RR tail for Mid-O but Jeremy ended up switching to the backup bike just before the race and it had the firebolt tail on it. Oddly enough, the firebolt tail is just a bit lighter as well (when made of CF of course).

Just curious. Is the factory delivered XBRR bodywork fiberglass or carbon fibre? McWilliams was definetly showing off some trick carbon pieces at MidOhio.

There have been two suppliers for XBRR bodywork. The early bodywork was hand-laid and vacuum-bagged, and was a mixture of carbon fiber with some glass. It went on the majority of XBRRs delivered, and can be recognized by its gel-coated black, yellow and blue colors. The latest bodywork, as on Jeremy's bike at Mid-Ohio, is all carbon-fiber, made with pre-preg material cured in an autoclave. It's more than 4 pounds lighter per set, and can be easily recognized because it's unpainted, with the carbon weave showing through. This went on the last XBRRs produced, and will be the only replacement bodywork available in the future. It's not cheap, but the Buell dealer price and suggested retail on it are closer to the OEM price than for any other component on the XBRR -- it's an expensive, high-quality bargain, the closest thing you'll find to GP bodywork.
