I have an '04 XB12 that I commute to work on; I just did an oil change a couple of days ago. This morning on my way to work, cruising on the freeway around 75-80 miles/hour and all the sudden it cut completely out, red engine light came on, and then when right back on within a second. It did this about 4 or 5 times at different intervals. I usually commute about 28 miles each way. Any ideas?? |

Oh, they all do that. 
Seriously though, How about the Kickstand safty switch or the Bank angle switch. Sounds like one of those. |

I think Naustin gives good advise. Check the tip sensor (bank angle sensor) and ensure that nothing is interfering with it's mounting. Next time it happens, try pulling in the clutch immediately. If the bike fires back up, then that would indicate a faulty kickstand safety switch. |

Ummm... I don't think the XB's have a kick stand switch. At least my 05 9sx does not. They just built the kickstand so it retracts when it hits something. So far (three times I can remember), it always has :0
I'd look carefully at connections and wiring under the seat. If that ECM harness gets misrouted, it can cut some random wire insulation invisibly and make it short out at random intervals, which could cause all sorts of random symptoms.
Even if that turns out not to be your problem, slapping a $1 piece of split loom cable armor on there is not a bad idea.
I also can't remember if the 04 12's also had the problematic wire routing under the flyscreen... maybe the horn bracket or something? Some wire would short out against a sharp bracket. |

My 03 has a switch. I cannot take off if the kickstand is down. If I try, the engine dies as soon as I let off the clutch. |

I have a XB12X, just this weekend on the Mass Pike going about 80 or so and then on a back road doing some speed the same thing happen, engine just shuts down like I hit the kill switch. I did hit the kill switch off and then on and it started right like nothing happen. Going to the dealership this week. } |

This is most likely related to the tip sensor (bank angle sensor). Apparently at certain engine speeds on some bikes, especially those that have in some way altered the area at/around the sensor, possibly via installation of the lower seat, the sensor will hit a resonant frequency which will cause it to trip. The solution is to alter the sensor mounting/position just enough to prevent it from resonating/vibrating.
Please call Buell Customer Service (414-343-8400) about this asap and have your VIN handy. They'll get you fixed up pronto.  |
