My 2007 XB12Scg with 940 miles suffered an apparent engine seizer. I had just completed an otherwise normal acceleration to approximately 60MPH when the rear wheel locked. It looks like about 10 to 12 feet of rubber before getting the clutch in. Even though in a gentle sweeper, I kept control and stayed in the lane. The bike was not warm yet, the oil level looked good. I just dropped it off with the dealer, time will tell. No damage to the bike and no harm to me, thing could have been much worse.

Wow, if you had only 10-12 feet of rubber at 60mph you have fast reflexes indeed. That's just a fraction of a second. Glad you are okay.

Sounds like pump failure or some other lubrication gremlin.

Points to the dealer so far. I dropped off the bike. They took it even though the service department was closed today. Then a mechanic calls me to say he has looked at the bike agrees it is seized and that it had oil. Said, he had removed the forward plug and did not think it was the rings. I guess, he boroscoped it. He'll call Buell tomorrow.

As for the the skid-mark, it probably did not seize all at once. It seemed I was fighting the oscillations many times that distance and maybe I was.

Let me say again I really love this motorcycle. I fits me very well. I hope, I can give lots of positive info going forward.

Break-in: it had hardly been over 4000 RPM for the first 500 miles. Mostly mountain roads and city riding very little steady state rpm excepting idle. Never went anywhere near redline and mostly below 5000 RPM. The fan ran nearly continuously when warm. I thought it normal since the engine was breaking-in. No negative characteristics; no warning signs. It tried stumbling a couple of time when cold and just starting out, real minor and I figured that's why there is a TPS reset at first service. I was very comfortable with it if not completely at peace with the brakes. I could have missed something having ridden but never having owned a HD V-twin.

They do run hotter during break in, but if there was oil starvation due to line blockage or oil pump failure it would drive even higher temps causing the fan to run all the time.

I just can't imagine, though, having a lubrication system failure and no "idiot" light.

Even if it sucked a valve, I don't think it would have seized.

Pros.
1. Handling, handling, handling!
2. The Scg fits, almost flat foot.
3. Because of handling and fit I feel safer.
4. It's Unique
5. Underneath it's an attractive motorcycle.
6. Can ride in RR or HD groups

Cons.
1. Cheese grater tail, mirrors
2. Exposed riding position at highway speeds
3. Plastics easily scratched.
4. Expensive.
5. Idle vibration

I swapped to the 0-degree bars for a different riding position. It also provides more wind protection. At 5'7 on a Scg the -7 degree bars may have been even better.

Finally a problem that is rare!! I still think that despite all of the trouble I have had with my bike that the engine and tranny are freaking solid. Sorry to hear you siezed it up, glad you were not hurt. Let us know what happened when you find out.

I wouldn't think that would be the case if pulling the clutch allowed the rear wheel to spin.

According to the service manager the spur gear bearing failed and followed by the gear-shaft to the oil pump. Buell still has not committed to sending a new engine. He said he was upset about that himself. At least he's saying the right things.

My 2007 XB12Scg is back with a new engine swing arm and oil lines. The spur bearing failed. The cage was all twisted up and some of the bearing rollers were broken. Once the bearing was remove the old engine turned freely. They were thinking the cause was a foreign object from the hose manufacturing process. I spoke with a 2006 Ulysses owner whose oil pump went out a five thousand mile. He said in his case there had been an inspection sticker in the oil system. Buell wanted my old swing arm for testing.

Breaking in the new engine now. Cut off the cheese grater, polishing things out this weekend.
