This is on an 03 XB9R Has anyone run into a problem with their tachometer where it does not do a proper sweep on ignition on, but only goes up to 4k or so and bounces between there and 2k or so while the speedo sweeps properly? (Message edited by diablobrian on October 08, 2006) |

Looking for a fix also. It started when the weather warmed up. All the connections looked good...bike is running fine. 2006 xb9sx |

Just turn on the ignition, then turn it back off, then turn it on again. The second sweep will be right Mine did it since almost new. Its a fun reminder of my old yamaha, where the tach generally would not work until I whacked it on the side. It generally sticks when the bike "boots up", but in 15k+ miles, it never read wrong. |

Nope not on mine. I re-cycled it at least a half dozen times with the same results each time. This is something new too. It never did this on me before. |

Does it still read right when you ride? |

It started doing it a little while back, but on my last ride I had a major problem that I attributed to bad fuel, but in retrospect may be related to the tach issue. On the last ride I filled up my nearly empty tank and headed out of town. A few miles out the bike started to buck and surge as if it was running out of fuel and then getting fuel again. It was doing this at all rpm. I limped it home with the idea I had gotten bad fuel. I pulled my plugs and they looked good (maybe a tad lean) then drained the fuel, and pulled the pump out as far as I could get it so I could clean the filter screen. I did get a little bit of water and a bit of debris out of the tank. Now I need new seals before I can ride the bike again because the old ones swelled up and no longer fit back into the hole. Now I have to stew and fume waiting to see if I got things solved. I was hoping someone had seen this before as a persistent problem. I think I'm going to check the tach's connector by the cam cover to make sure I have good clean connections next. Any other ideas? I haven't messed with the ignition system in almost a year. That was when I installed the ignition interrupt that is part of my shifter system. |

DB- check the ground wire connections on the steering head and on the subframe. Take them apart and clean them. Also you could ohm the ground wire from the front to the rear connection on the subframe. |

Good call Mike! I'll take a look at that when I get back home. |
