Well, it's me again. Yes, I'm still around. On a 4 day pass right now so I got to ride my bike. Anyways, from what it looks like right now, I will be getting stationed in Germany to start off. Now, we're allowed to bring 1 vehical over there. I'm debating between my truck or bike. Was wondering if anyone else has taken a bike over there and how it was? Any info would be helpful. |

Things may have changed since I retired last year, but your motorcycle is not considered a vehicle so you ship it with your hold baggage / household goods. Now this is as long as you don't go over the weight limit, then you ship your truck seperate as your vehicle. I don't know you situation, married, single going on command sponsership or not. I would contemplate leaving your truck home and picking up a used car from another GI leaving there. Inspection standards in Germany are tough on vehicles and motorcycles, so bring your stock exhuast if you changed it out... V/R, Nick (Message edited by nxtr on October 08, 2006) |

Cataract - Which base? I am stationed at Ramstein AB. Motorcycles are NOT CONSIDERED a VEHICLE, They ARE SHIPPED WITH TMO / HOUSEHOLD GOODS. With that being said, you can bring both, but trucks don't fair well in Europe, especially between the small/tight parking lots and the Autobahn. As far as inspection standards - the military bases inspect the vehicles. Last time I had the car inspected another military member inspected the car and didn't seem too concerned with anything. Ah, if you go to Baumholder my brother-in-law is a contractor there (R6). I ride with another Buell now and then (Local National) and have heard tales of there being 1 or maybe 2 in this section of germany. PM me or email me - kylen1985@msn.com or if you are going to be at work a lot - kyle.brine@ramstein.af.mil Looking forward to hearing from you. Let me know your situation and maybe I can lend a hand if one needs lending. |

Cataract, Good to hear from you! Advise on German location when you know it. Leave the truck and get a used BMW/Merc/sumpin from someone leaving for cheap-cheap. You can always upgrade,,,,stay in touch. G2 |
