Hello all! I am a big lurker. I have rejetted to 45/175, installed the CCP Idle Mixture Needle (a/f screw), and the Jardine exhaust, retaining the stock front mounting hardware and with the outlet to the left. After a late night(LOUD)test ride I also installed the Quite Core the next morning. I drilled the hole before the installation of the muffler so all I had to do was pop it in. I have a couple quick questions. Is there a space between the exhaust port and the back of the circlip/bolt on flange? If so, how much space? TIA, Keith |

Flrider: Have the PRODUCT IMPROVEMENTS done on the OEM stock muffler you gave me ... Running 12 to 1 Fuel/Air ratio ... PRODUCT IMPROVED Air Box with a K&N air filter ... Idle mixture screw out 2 1/2 turns from seat ... Number 48 Low Speed jet ... Radiused the slide .. Stock needle raised 0.050 thousands ... Number 180 High Speed jet ... Sure runs good and it does not make as much noise as your new after market exhaust system ... In BLASTing LaFayette |

Welcome to the board Blasty2k! The space you ask about varies as to how much you tighten the exhaust flange. There is a lead wire gasket back there and it is soft and will form to a point. so as long as everything is tight, and doesn't leak it doesn't matter what the actual distance is. Also, if you find a flat spot, or a spot of unresponsive throttle at mid range, you will want to shim the carb needle .050 Great Luck, Have Fun! |

Thanks Swampy. I think I am good with the exhaust. No symptoms of a leak. I have not detected any flat spots, but haven't paid very close attention either. So I don't think I need to shim the needle and if I do I will search the archives again for info. I searched all night but found none. So hopefully I will not need it. For the last couple days, since it has been raining, I have been trying to come up with an adequate gasket for the air filter cover. Thanks again. |

Are you running the stock air box? Don't worry about the rain, it will work just fine in even the most heavy down pour. |

Yep. Running stock airbox for now. I will go with a K&N air filter soon. Not worried about the rain for water ingestion. I was caught in a good down poor coming for the HD $tealer one day. I just don't like getting wet if I can prevent it. |

Anyone find any packing that actually quiets the sound? GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

I used FMF packing and really stuffed it in there. It actually made the WB quieter than stock (WB) although I had expected it to be noisier since I overstuffed it. |

This question may have been covered before and I just haven't found it, so excuse this repeated topic from a newbie Blast owner. I am going to replace the stock exhaust with the V&H SSR set-up. I have seen comments about jetting the carbs. I'm not a mechanic so I have no clue what that means. Will I have to do this to my bike when I put the V&H system on? |

Its not a do it or the bike wont run though. You just wont be getting the full benefit of the exhaust. There is the very slight possibility of overheating (unlikely unless you've done other modifications). Jetting involves some very minor parts swapping in the carb. You should be at least handy with a quality screwdriver. The slow jet should be changed to a 45, but you may or may not need the 175 main as it comes with a 170 stock. For the best results jetting should be done on a dyno or by someone who knows how to tune in carbs. The guidelines above are 'close enough' for most with a stock engine. |

Ok thanks guys. My father-in-law is an old harley mech. I should be able to get his help with it. I'm not thrilled with my local HD shop right now. Their mech's had a "don't-give-a-crap" attitude about the Buell. |

Welcome to the board Bonesdl1 ! With the colder temps, a lean condition could result and you may find yourself with a poor running bike. I would opt to get real friendly with you father-in-law, and get him on this website to checkout some of the peculiarities of the Blast, such as adjusting the primary and the sort. Good luck with your Blast, let the madness begin! |

Just remember.... You don't have to go to the dealer to get carb jets, they can be had from almost any motorcycle shop, American that is. Even some of the Jap bike shops have them for the CV carbs. Typically they don't just have indivudual jets in a bin out back, they have a tuning kit, with muitiple jets in many different sizes in a transparent case with dividers separating the sizes. Just like a candy store! |

I went to a place called Scotti's Muffler and bought a small cherry bomb muffler. I then went to Meineke, as Scotti's didn't have anything to bend the exhaust to fit my head. They put it all together with auto exhaust pipes. Total cost, $90. It's fairly quiet at an idle, but not so quiet when I open it up. Someone said it sounds like a machine gun. Here's a shot of it mounted, and before painting with barbecue paint. (Message edited by Joey on October 31, 2006) |

Ezblast: By my old ear drums only a very few db louder than the stock OEM muffler un-PRODUCT IMPROVED ... Exhaust System Mods: From the head to the muffler has a larger "ID" pipe ... Said pipe has exhaust wrap ... Opened the right rear of the muffler with a hole the same size as the stock left side hole ... The reason "i" put the kick outs on the exhust outlets is to keep twice as much hot exhaust off the rear tire, also a little exhaust leight tuning ... In BLASTing LaFayette |

They are - 5/16-24 Check out the rest of your exhaust mounts, you might have another one loose. Usually loose header nuts are a symptom of a loose exhaust system. http://www.americansportbike.com/shop/cgi-bin/cp-a pp.cgi?usr=51F7889514&rnd=1451133&rrc=N&affl=&cip= 69.160.135.44&act=&aff=&pg=prod&ref=17134&cat=&cat str=HOME |
