Im probably going to get hammered for this post, but has anyone out there, messed with any of the Mutant conversion kits from Redneck Engineering, especailly any of the new kits designed around the XB? | ||

       I have not, there is a thread in Old School Buell, http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/228486.html?1159246345#POST 747956 bemoaning the loss of Cyclones to the chopper cultists. A Sportster based chopper gets a vibrating, decent bike off the road, replacing it ( about 1/3 of the time ) with a badly handling, back hurting toy. ( the other 2/3 of the time it remains an unfinished basket case, forever. ) A Lightning or Cyclone based chopp, takes one of the best street bikes in the world off the road & gives you a faster ( see above ). The purists spoken for, ( partly, I held short of screams of BLASPHEMY!!!! ) I have seen pics, but not heard from someone who actually built one. Anyone? | ||

heres my thing - unless you are going to actually fork over the money to "save" all these bikes then dont bitch about what people do to them. I own a 2nd gen MR2 turbo, I acquired another one about two years ago and made it known i would be parting it out, so many people flamed me about "destroying" a great car yet no one wanted to cough up the dough to buy it from me (low price too). this is the same situation - everyone wants to save all of the remaining cars/bikes/whatever but they dont want to actually put forth effort or money into it. People always want to tell others what to and what to not do with their money and possesions. Its a shame. Naustin - as far as your comment on "generally those people do not hang out on here" Yeah, actually Im in the planning process now of tearing down a buell to make another bike out of it, so dont be so quick to use that line. Just cause I am a buell enthusiast doesnt mean I think its the greatest thing ever built. sorry, it just gets to me after so many posts about this. I understand the sentiment regarding the demise of the tuber's. I mourn the loss of every '55 Chevy or first gen Camaro that was cut up to build stock cars. I like my chopper Buell, but I liked the M2 also. Yeah, I sometimes wish I had it back in M2 configuration for one more ride. I sometimes wish I had every bike I've owned back for one more ride. Every bike regardless of current popularity will someday be a classic. If you have the foresight and financial means to collect ones that are special to you, I tip my hat. On the other hand some of us just keep the fond memories of the past and ride in the present. Building the chopper Buell was a very special time in my life. Frite, Bomber, I agree with you 100%! I have a 75 Norton Commando that I hear the same story about. Everyone bemoans the passing of the marque and wishes the "curse of a thousand c***sucker ants" on you if you mention building anything other than a "proper restoration", or heaven forbid parting it out. But ask the question,"You want to buy it"? And the silence is deafening! Your cash! your bike! your time! Do what you want with the friggin thing and enjoy it!  | ||

My original intent for my X1 was to use it as a donor bike for a 'Redneck Bobber'. At this point,(two days of ownership and yet to get it out of third,unregistered.) I'm second guessing myself. I think with a bit taller set of bars, this thing will be a riot as is. Regarding 'Redneck Engineering': I looked at their stuff at Myrtle Beach last year. Saw the bikes dynamically and static. Talked with 'Frede' a bit and all i have to say is these guys have top flight products and are very helpful. Of course they are, they're selling a product! But a pretty cool bunch of folks at that. Cool as hell frames and a sweet T-shirt girl to boot! | ||

You may be right! Been acclimating myself to the bike little by little and do have to comment that it's a fun ride. Still not convinced regarding the seating position but it may grow on me. At speed, the weight on my arms and upper body does transfer more to the seat. Funny, this thing draws more attention than my 'DX ever did at much less than a third of the total cost involved. Now if I could only get it to run as well. Freakin' FI bikes! |
