yesterday i had the damned idea of clean the spark plugs on my bike ( xb12r). rear first and front after...neverd cleaned the front one because putting the rear back after cleaning it , maybe because i got the wrong threads position , it forced too much turning the wrench and the spark plug broke in two parts one in the head and one ( with the exagon ) in my hand ....now the mechanic will pick up the bike in the evening . please somebody know what sparks plug i must order for a 12r xb pumped up with race kit open airbox and a tuned with a by-pass fuel-ignition module( rapid bike). ngk brand its the easier to find here. any help welcome bye Alessio |

....maybe its better remove the head because some pieces of ceramic went inside the cyl. and maybe it will need new threads on the head because the original its damaged by the wrong spark plug position that i forced in , .....i cant' bealive this....really....next time better i'll cut away my hands before doing some job on my bike. just in case is it possible make a bigger hole to accept different size spark plugs ??? bye you all Alessio |

Once you remove the head, you have to pull the cylinder and replace the lower gasket AND piston rings. At least that is what mechanics tell me. You MAY not want to go that far. Good luck! |

hi Bruce you kill me.... to make a new thread on the head why i need to remove cylinder and why after just 7000 miles new rings and i think that if i put new rings on one cylinder i must do it to the other one also.please correct me if 'm wrong.thank you anyway bye Alessio |

This is how it was explained to me by several mechanics. When you remove the head, the gasket at the bottom of the cylinder has to be replaced as well as the head gasket. When you remove the cylinder to get at that gasket, you take it off over the piston. Standard practice at the local HD dealership is to replace the piston rings whenever the piston removed from the cylinder. So, that is how it goes, or so I am told. When the HD dealer made a mistake on my bike recently and had to remove the head, they did exactly what I described and ate the cost themselves. So, it appears this is indeed what has to be done or they ate a lot of money for no good reason. For what it is worth! |

On your second question, I do not think you need to do both sets of rings at a time. At least HD did not do that on my bike. Good luck! |
