Right now the Buell dealership experience is much too dependent on an individual who is a Buell advocate. It is not assimilated into the H-D dealership culture. We read that over and over again on this board. Everything was going great a my dealership. My salesperson was a Buell rider and she was promoted to assistant service manager after I took delivery. She just left the dealership and it's a whole new world. I went in for the sidestand and tall windshield fixes yesterday and all I heard was complaints about the Buell computer system (which I thought was the H-D system). They couldn't find my parts for which we delayed making a service appointment until I was notified that they arrived. I just got the impression that servicing a Buell was a inconvenience. I have a feeling that I'll be doing a few things over myself when I get it back. |

I've got to call the dealer. I called them to inquire about the recall on the date indicated by the recall letter. I think that was July 14th or somewhere around then. I've not heard anything from them sense. I shouldn't have to call them, they should call me when the part they said they ordered arrived. But I understand that things fall through the cracks. I'll have to give them a ring when I get a chance. |

Does anyone know what the hold up is on the recall parts? I've been waiting and now the dealership tells me "we don't know when we'll get it." Frustration reigns and it wears you out. G2 |

Well...It's been quite awhile since I got my recall letter and called my local shop to arrange to have the work done. I have not heard from them, but I understand everyone gets busy and I've not pestered them. Finally, I couldn't stand it any longer and called them today. "We don't have them yet" is the response I got. Now, either Buell really hasn't shipped the parts to them, or something else is up. I've read post after post of people getting their recalls done, so why can't my dealer get the parts? Have they peed in someones oatmeal up in East Troy? Can someone "in the know" give me some info on what's going on with the sidestand parts? Thanks! |

Chad, See my post on advrider here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3311776&postcount=179 I AM GLAD I HAVE HAD NO REASON TO BRING MY BIKE TO THE DEALER UNTIL NOW. Hopefully, there will be no further reasons in the future. Cheers Brett |

The sidestand parts are absolutely available, and on an overnight basis. Anyone telling you differently is not correct. I don't know what else to say. |

Anony, Wonderful. I just stopped in on 9/23 to find out that neither the sidestand nor the tall windscreen parts have arrived yet. I'll give the benefit of the doubt on the timeline and say it's been 5 weeks since they said the sidestand request was faxed in and about 4 weeks since the tall windscreen request. I will give credit in that I was contacted by them about the tall windscreen recall. The service manager actually went through the sales records to try and determine who had purchased them. I don't know what to say either... |

My personal experience has shown me that my dealer will sell you a Buell, after you practically tackle someone on the sales staff. After you buy though, they've made their money on you. The relatively small Buell accessory line (compared to H-D) means they don't feel compelled to treat you right because you're not going to be back to buy $5000 in chrome and pay to have them install it. The saving grace is the folks at the Buell factory. THANK GOD FOR THEM. |

Court, Do Buells HAVE to be sold through H-D dealerships? Would it be possible to have a Buell/KTM/Aprilia/Ducati shop for example? |

I'm having a similar problem, got the recall notice, went to the dealer, they booked me in, "check if you have the parts please" I asked, "oh, no..." came the reply. I then said, "The bike is leaving the country Friday, any chance of getting them before then........", I'm still waiting for a call! Luckily I'm aware of the problem with the stand and I'll treat it with GREAT respect! |

/quote{The sidestand parts are absolutely available, and on an overnight basis. Anyone telling you differently is not correct. I don't know what else to say.} Humm...so, what do I do now? Do I call the dealer and tell them that the parts are available for overnight shipping? Wait? Contact Buell Customer Service? It's a slippery slope. I don't have a lot of choices of dealers. One is about 40 miles from my house, the other a little over 60 miles. If I make them mad, then I'm guaranteed to get shuffled to the back of the line just when I need them most. Over a month to get my fan replaced, an going WELL over a month to get what I feel is a safety related recall. I don't know what I'd do if by some chance the sidestand broke while my 2yr old daughter was walking by the bike. I do my best to keep her away from it. |

Tomorrow will be 1 month to the date (8/28) that my dealer said the parts are on order. As mentioned above, safety related??? Best to keep it away from the other stable mates!! Lonely Uly just doesn't understand......... |

Maybe the solution is to ride the bike into the dealership and park-it with a Duece on the left side. Then ask when the parts will be in. |

I don't know what to say other than to nicely tell your dealer that he may not be aware, but the sidestand kits are sitting waiting at the Franklin warehouse for orders. Or call Customer Service and give them the information on your bike, your dealer and when you ordered the parts. One would hope that the CS folks from the factory would handle that smoothly with the dealer. But, I can't do anything more than tell you the facts on availability. |

Also still waiting for parts for both the tail windshield and the sidestand. The dealer still tells me that parts are on order and the problem is Buell. What gives?? Anon says parts are available on a whim, dealer says parts are unattainable by any means. I don't get it but I know what bad service is and that is what Buell is currently delivering to me and others on these recall issues. Yes, it is great that the factory acknowledged the problems and spent the time and effort to engineer a solution but if the dealers can't (or won't??) do the last bit and install the parts, what good is it? Soloyosh, what a great idea! Buells sold with other sport bikes! There is a dealer here in town that deals in BMW, Ducati, Aprilla, and Triumph. I go there for tires and some other items. My Buell feels right at home there. Looks good with the other exotic sport bikes, like it belongs there. The dealer also always likes to see the Buell and shows more interest in it than does the HD/Buell dealer who seems to wonder why it doesn't make more noise and contain a large volume of chrome parts. The Buell is too great to be tarnished by HD dealers. It is time for independent dealers of the Buell brand! The current bar for dealer service is set so low, how could Buell go wrong to try it?? |

Are the dealers aware that they have to place the order for the parts now? Buell sent out a few kits automatically to Buell dealers when they first came out. Now(and for the last few weeks, at least) the dealer has to place the order for the parts. They are not going to ship on auto pilot. Part #94483Y Description: RECALL KIT, CODE 0832, SIDESTAND, XB12X Inventory As Of: 9/24/2006 Harley-Davidson has this part available at the Franklin Distribution Center. Sometimes they just have to order the parts? |

Sorry to hear of your dealer problems..... that sucks! I'm fortunate to have a very good dealer close to me. the service they provide is extraordinary! Port Charlotte H-D/Buell in SW Florida. They're good enough to recognize that they to can make mistakes but they have ALWAYS made good and them some. My comments are based on numerous experience over the last two years with this dealer on my RoadGlide and Uly! By the way, neither of my bikes were purchased from this dealership. RoadGlide was purchased 2 years ago just before dealership was established, Uly was purchased used. |

I do not see how that would work since they are free parts? PM me your dealer info and I can forward the info to the correct people at Buell and see if they can help us here. Also include your name and VIN # please |

Okay, I had a long post completed and it disappeared into the ether...here's a shorter version: Something is obviously amiss - my service manager says he faxed the info for my bike in well over a month ago and Anony says parts are readily available. Since I'm not the only one having this issue with the parts taking forever to arrive (and I'm not going to doubt either Anony nor my service manager at this point), isn't it possible that there is some other disconnect in the supply chain? Just wondering... |

Ikeman.....FYI, my dealer says they now have the sidestand recall parts "in stock". This was Tuesday of this week. Then they confirmed my bike wasn't part of the recall after I had asked about the recall parts the last two months. Doh! |

To anyone in the know: When a recall notice goes out, does it go to folks who are not affected by the recall? |

>>>>When a recall notice goes out, does it go to folks who are not affected by the recall? No. The impacted population is listed on the recall. When a recall is announced the manufacturer is required to provide notice and have parts available within a prescribed time frame. Buell met all the requirements including notifying registered owners. |

So...we know the parts exist. My dealer says they are still waiting on them. There is a disconnect somewhere. If I were to call my dealer, is there anything I can offer as proof that the parts exist and are available overnight? Going to them with the statement, "I read it on the internet", isn't going to cut it. I need to be able to speak HD talk to them. Tell them, "Go to HD Net and type in XXXXXX, then click, XXXXX, and order part number XXXX, select option , XXX, for overnight shipping." Something to that degree. I can go down there, and watch them look in the computer and have them show me what they see. If they read right there on their screen that the parts are in, and they can't get them, then obviously they have a clerical issue at their shop or they need to make a call to Buell to find out why they parts aren't being sent to them. It might also be good for me to drop a name or two. "Call XXXXX at Buell. He'll get you the parts". I want to be an informed consumer when I go to the shop. Makes it a lot harder for them to tell me, "Sorry, the parts aren't here. We'll call you when they show up" and send me packing. I was born in the morning, but not yesterday morning. Something is amiss and I'd like to know what. |

I asked the dealership where I bought my Uly to get the parts in prior to my vacation at the beginning of Sept. A call back produced no results, so I went to another dealer who had the parts in stock and had it done. I got a call from from the original dealer yesterday telling me the parts cam in. It is difficult to develop a relationship with a dealer that doesnt seem to care one way or another about the Buell customer. I love my Ulysses, and my girlfriend really wants a Blast to begin her riding career, but with the lack of decent dealers, I dont think a Blast is in her future. I will deal with someone less than an hour away, and who will actually take care of issues in a timely matter I have a feeling that the only Buell I will ever own will be the Ulysses, and the only reason is the dealer network sucks. |
