Kristi and I got away this weekend. While we were out we started to think when the last time we left for a weekend by ourselves, with no one tagging along or waiting for us at our destination........ Never! In 22 years we have never gone on a trip that was just us. When we were in Cincinnati we would drive to North Carolina to see her Dad and Grandmother. When we moved to North Carolina we would go to Cincinnati to see family there. So since our first serious date when we became an item on Kristi's 18th birthday, to now some 22 years later, this was our first weekend away truly alone. Well, we realized we have to do this again. Here are some shots. First a picture of us taken by a fellow ferry rider on the Cherry Branch-Minnesott Ferry
We actually rode some 360 miles on the bike and three ferries for ??? miles. Here are a couple shots on the Cedar Island-Ocracoke Ferry. This ferry goes across Pamlico Sound. It goes out far enough that you loose sight of land for about an hour.

On the other end here is a shot of the Ocracoke Light House
After hopping Ocracoke and another ferry to Hatteras Island, we stopped at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse at sunset. The tallest Lighthouse on the Atlantic Coast. This is also the light house they moved to its present location.

After a 60 miles cruise up Hatteras Island to Bodie Island, we stopped in Kill Devil Hills and got a hotel room. After freshening up we went to Awful Arthur's Oyster Bar. We sat at the bar waiting for a table and ended up staying at the bar and eating dinner there. It was a dangerous place to sit because you got to see all the food pass by. After shrimp, steak and bear we called it a night. The next morning we went to the Wright Brothers Memorial
The stone markers in the background are the landing points of the first through third flights taken by the Wright Brothers on December 17, 1903.
Here is a shot of a model of the glider used by the Wright Brothers to prove out their theory of controlled heavier than air flight. Yaw, Pitch and Roll we pattened off the glider not the air plane that came a year later.
You know the mannequin of Orville depicts what he was thinking about as his next machine.
Can you see what he is looking at? No? Here let me help.
Yeah, to hell with bicycles. A true visionary. Here is a shot of a model of the original plane, with the glider in the rear.
