Looks like no interest yet from any of the Buell teams! No Buells at the shake down Race. Red |

The entry list looks a bit thin for the first event which is a real shame, although there will always be some late comers I suppose. Looking at the list I would be tempted to put some money on the San Jose BMW team. Not only are they using the new and very impressive R1200S but they have Nate Kern AND Stephan Mertens (ex World Endurance champion!) riding for them.
I will be checking the entry list regularly for the McWilliams/Cicotto/Bilansky XBRR entyr of course |

Kern & Mertens will dominate this event IMHO. Not only are they both top riders -Nate has already shown conclusively that he can win against supposedly faster horses - but the R1200S is ideally suited for endurance racing. In the 70's I was involved with BMW Canada endurance racing an R75/5 which was a piece of doggy-poo, but we were able to be competitive against some petty fast stuff such as Bol d'Or spec 750 Hondas. The new 1200S is a far more capable bike than anything before it in the BMW line. Bet on Kern/Mertens |

The emperor has no clothes. It would be a looooong race for a Buell, IMHO. Maybe it is best to stick with the sprint races...shucks, we are having a tough time making through some of those. I wish it were different. There is a reason that the FX and Thunderbike races are several laps shorter than the others in AMA and ASRA...but you don't have to take my word for it, just ask the racers themselves. I have heard it from more than one. jimidan Go Buells! |

Good to see a Buell in there And at the moment it looks like a guaranteed class winner with only 1 GST class entry Another bike that I think will do well is the Blue Ridge Racing Kawasaki 650. They have been racing this little bike all year and have had some good successes with it. I would expect it to show very well at Daytona. (Message edited by trojan on September 25, 2006) |

Trojan man sez: "Good to see a Buell in there And at the moment it looks like a guaranteed class winner with only 1 GST class entry" Considering that Buell made the public announcement of support for the race and offered $10,000 in contingency money, it would be embarrassing if nobody took them up on it. It is bad enough that there is only one entry out of all of the Buell race teams out there. But at least there is one. Good luck! jimidan Go Buell |

Jimidan, Hate to disappoint but I'd bet that an XBRR down-rated to the MAX legal power of 115 or 118 (per rule change) would be MUCH more longer-lived than putting down 150HP. Those HP classes really don't need much tweaking to make the power in one of the 3 classes: below 75HP (XB9 stock) 75-90 (XB9 tweaked or XB12 stock) 90-115(118) (tweaked XB9 or XB12 or de-rated XBRR) It can happen. ...and I wouldn't say there's no interest - it's just that ENDURANCE is a totally different set of problems than FX and October is CLOSE. We'll see much more participation when the season starts in Daytona in March. NOBODY who has a bike set for FX would dare run it in MotoST except for the publicity. 45 minutes is a much different race than 3 hours and CERTAINLY different than 8 hours! I posted a bunch of stuff on Badweb http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/37/40.html?1159123346#POST747043 (Storm Fronts - Southern California) and a couple other boards about the trials and tribulations of pitting for a top 5 racer in the Toyota 200 on the Willow Springs BBS - (but you have to be a member now to see it since their bbs got hacked, sign-up is immediate) http://www.ducatitech.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=4612 And Sacborg http://www.sacborg.com/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=015926 (Message edited by slaughter on September 25, 2006) (Message edited by slaughter on September 25, 2006) |
