This was happening only now and then before, but not it's happening more frequently and it's making me uncomfortable. The bikes hesitates every now and then like it's missing. I am on the highway when it happens. It's just a sudden, quick hesitation. Sometimes it can happen back to back or several seconds up to a minute apart. |

Bumpity bump? Was this talked about already and no one wants to answer or does no one know of this problem? Man, where are all the gurus...probably hanging out in the XB forum. |

Ok, thanks for the replies. I with start with those things and if I don't see anything unusual, I'll take it in. I hate to do that though, because I am not so sure the guys there know what their doing. (Message edited by Shea on September 21, 2006) |

Troubleshooting an intermittent problem is a hit or miss deal, no pun intended. I wouldn't take it to a dealer unless I have something specific for them to fix. Otherwise they might start replacing this and that until the problem goes away or not. Regardless, I would have to pay the bottom line. And I'm not about to pay someone to learn on my dime. It's probably best to keep riding it until the intermittent problem becomes repeatable. Then you'd have something specific for the dealer to fix. In the meantime, the problem just might fix itself. For example, if it were misfiring because of water in the gas, a fresh load of gas would most likely flush out the bad gas and the problem would fix itself. |

Yeah, it's been doing this for quite some time and getting worse, that's why I ask. It started off doing it once or twice a ride, now it does it the whole way home on the highway. The bike is under warranty, it's a 2006 with 1500 miles, would I still need to pay for that? In fact, I paid for the extended service plan, I better not have to pay. My X1 started doing this on my first day of a 2 week bike trip.I took all electrical connections apart & cleaned them.At least the ones I could easily get to.It still did it,so I figured maybe I fixed the bad connection somewhere, but the ecm was a little wacky because of a somewhat less than perfect ground or something.I figured if I disconnected the battery for a few minutes then hook it back up & ride it like I stole it,maybe just maybe it would fix itself.1000 miles later it has run perfect. Now to fix the new problemil puking from the trans overflow.Looks like a new crankshaft seal is in order. By the way,I initially fixed the X1 on the 3rd day of my trip by picking up a Uly from Tilley's.What a great bike so far. |

Rode it back from Lancaster today after having the timing reset back to factory and the TPS reset. I didn't notice it, but I didn't hold a consistant speed much, so it's hard to tell if it's still there. feels better though. |

Sorry I'm too late... sounds like TPS reset . Mine is doing the same thing (but with 30K miles). I took it to a dealer in Phoenix and asked them to reset the TPS. They measured the TPS voltage w/o backing the idle down (to close the throttle plates) and told me it didn't need one (but charged me the $40). I left a bit torqued and have been hunting for a different problem ever since... I've now RE-convinced myself that it is indeed a TPS reset (with the help from Al at American Sport Bike) so I'm going to see if I can't get them to do a free one for me. I'll have them reset the TPS, and if it DOESN'T work, I'll pay them for it, as I've already paid them for one that, if it does work, would have worked when I paid them for it... Anyway ... /RANT = OFF |
